This beats the hell out of the refurb m 400 for $230 + Tax

Canon claims %20 better low light performance with m500. That's probably the only advantage over m40. Maybe smaller too, if you prefer that.

m40 has dual card slots with relay recording vs one on m500. M40 has 16gb built in memory vs none on m500.

Yes, but those are all Thanksgiving sale prices. This camera was selling for $500 in October.

Yes, assuming you want a camcorder, obviously. It is a FAR better camera than the Canon R30 that Amazon is selling for the same price.

Also, in case anyone is confused, the R300/R30/32 are basically the same camcorder and the M500/50/52 are the same. The main difference between models in the same line is the amount of built-in memory. The 300/500 have none, 30/50 have 8GB, and 32/52 have 32GB.
