I took the Y580 for $869, but it adds about $80 of tax for me to ship to where I'm at at the very end of checkout, so I'm actually passing on this deal as a result.

I told myself if there was no tax, I'll buy it. Otherwise, I'll pass. I've been hoping for a 1080p laptop for a long time, and man, this thing is loaded. I just don't NEED it... Especially for close to $1,000 after tax.

So I'm sitting on my hands to keep myself from spending the money now.

For gaming, do you think an IPS vs TN panel is going to matter much, if any?

sorry - do you know how to upgrade or what to buy to make this laptop output to two monitors?

Also, this doesn't have touch screen, does it?
For mostly work and occasional gaming purposes, which one is better? This or that

can I downgrade to windows 7 easily with a fresh copy? why bother with 8 and no touchscreen...

Some would argue so, but I don't mind one way or the other.

I'm used to working on the standard 1366xWhatever resolution monitors. I would absolutely love a full 1080p screen again so I can dual-view my spreadsheets/proposals/invoices/IDEs while I work. That's what I mostly use my laptop for: work.

The gaming aspect is mostly just gravy. I have a desktop for that. The videocard in my desktop is over a year old and still creams this laptop's graphics card, but honestly, that's the name of the game. Being able to game on a laptop will always just be a "bonus", and a rather expensive one. You're always going to be better off building a desktop for gaming.

Gaming on the go just means that I can procrastinate on the go.

I think the $649 Dell is 17 inches (larger, desirable by some, undesirable by others) and the resolution on the $649 is "900p"?

I had also considered the Dell, but I know that down the road I'd be regretting I didn't go the full 1080p for working space. I'd also prefer a 15". I've had a 17" work/gaming laptop before, but I've been working with 15" the past 2 years and very much prefer the 15". It's portable enough it fits in my backpack(s)/bag(s), but not small enough that they don't come equipped with the full numpad or that I strain my eyes to use the screen.

This doesn't have the separate mouse buttons from the trackpad. That would kill it for me. Also, don't need this high of resolution. Backlit keyboard looks nice, but I got that on my $500 HP Envy M6.

Man ... I dont know about this ... no 660 ... this is ok ... if it were 750 it would be hot but the same price as the one with the 660 was ... I am not sold ...
