I am tired of paying Cable company for their DVRs on top of the cable boxes that they charge for. I have never used TIVO before and not very familiar how it works but would intend to get one to save some money. As per my understanding I can replace my existing cable DVR with regular cable box without DVR and then hook up the TIVO to that cable box and will be able to begin recording. Can someone detail the steps and possible cost if possible; I would prefere the 1TB storage TIVO as few of you suggested. Thank you in advance.
I have one Tivo Premiere I bought JUST TO USE AS A RENT FREE CABLE BOX!
$10/mo = rent cable box
$2/mo rent Cablecard
TOTAL = $8/mo savings x 12 months = $96/year saved!
You also get to pause live tv and limited manual recording functions.
To each his own, but in May of 2009 I ditched cable ($100+ month) and purchased a TiVo HD with lifetime subscription (approx. total of $630 at the time). Couple months later the box died, but TiVo sent a replacement free of charge. Few months after that I upgraded the drive from the original 250GB to 1TB. My TiVo has been working fine, recording shows from local channels and best of all, for over 2 years I haven't paid a penny for cable or satellite. That's what I call a slick deal!
