I'm guessing "very good condition" from Amazon Warehouse means practically new. Is this a pretty good deal? What have these things been retailing at? My GF has been wanting one of these for a while.

Not really. I bought 2 iphones from the Warehouse, one "very good" and one "like new". The "very good" came with no box, screen was fine, but scratched up and dents badly on the sides, speakers were filled of dirt. The "like new" came with a nice box, but dozen of hairline scratches on the screen

With Amazon Warehouse then "Very Good" condition turned out to be just open box returns that look new. But I took a risk on a warehouse Nexus 7 in "good " condition and it was a dud.it looked brand new and everything but it wouldn't charge or power on without being plugged in and even when running it would crash and get a weird static screen. So now I'm wondering if the condition they report is more about how it functions rather than how it looks.

Either way, buying warehouse is safe because they have a great return policy.

I've bought roughly 250 items from the warehouse. Except for one Wii that was advertised as "used - like new" and came set up for a family that used it for years, including their memory card, and blue crayon all over it...everything was as described.

For used like new, its generally damaged packaging or an unopened return. For 'very good', the box was usually destroyed and/or the item may have minor scratches but the item description usually tells you. For 'good' or 'fair', read the item description carefully, because its definitely a used but resellable item with certain parts missing or visible use to the item.

On the definitely not used-like new wii, amazon credited me for half the purchase price. A couple of times when the item was different than what was described (laptop ram instead of desktop ram) they either took it back at their own cost or advised me to just throw it away.

Other than that, you really have to eyeball the prices, especially for used electronics as you can often find the item truly new at a similar or better sales price.

These were returns from customers whom had it for less than 30 days. Buy it, try it out and if anything contact amazon and they will give you free return shipping. If I wasn't looking for a laptop I would be all over this. This is good especially for students.
