So when is a good time to buy that HDTV again?

Just asked him again....to clarify, he said before super bowl is the best time because of the super bowl sales, and the fact they are also clearing out old models at that time.

He also said 10% off is the base discount on open boxes, and there is always haggling.


Like another poster said, I think it just depends on what kind of tv you're looking for. I just picked up a 40" Toshiba 1080P for $179 shipped. Perhaps if you're looking for a 60" (besides the black friday vizio), perhaps spring is a better time.

Well the "haggling" comes into play if the returned/open item is missing items,... or has been sitting on the store shelf for 7days or longer at the 10% off discounted price. A good deal would be to find one that has been sitting for 30days or longer and if priced correctly it would be marked down 10% off every 7days for a nice discount. Extreme YMMV for a tiny chance of getting a discounted item... a used/returned item at that.

You probably have the same odds just finding a BB employee who is willing to purchase the tv at employee discounted price instead. for a few bills.

He's looking for 40-47" flat screen, just basic TV (he doesn't care about WiFi or 3D or any of that.) So would y'all guess the best deals on that kind of TV would be after Xmas or before Superbowl.

Also, which one is the better to buy these days? Plasma, LCD or LED?

I think you'll still find good deals before Christmas. For a 40" I would say $250 or less. For a 47" I would say $400 or less.

Keep an eye out for deals and you'll probably find one worthwhile in the next few weeks.

If you're looking for a nicer TV or bigger TV with all the features and functions and such the next big deal will probably be around the Superbowl like others have said.

Before the superbowl. When I was in the market for a new 58" a few years ago ( I was looking for a specific model) it was the cheapest before the superbowl. This was a Panasonic that was highly rated at the time.

Christmas maybe willl be better
