http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blo...ssion.html http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/0...-4-review/ We did some comparison tests with the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy S III, one of the best 8-megapixel mobile cameras we've had the pleasure of using. There are a few areas in which the Nexus 4 bests the GS3, and others in which it's still very good, but loses to its Samsung competitor. The Nexus appears to be slightly better in close-ups and when zooming in at full strength. We also prefer HDR on the Nexus. Colors, however, seem to be more naturally saturated on the GS3 and the sky shows a more realistic blue hue. The LED flash on the Nexus 4 is bright -- in fact, it's almost too bright. This is a rare problem to have on a smartphone, no doubt, but many of our shots taken with the flash on end up washing some of the color out. The GS3's flash, by comparison, is softer, but at least we were able to see all of the colors the way they're supposed to look. In general, low-light performance was acceptable on the Nexus, but we noticed more noise and less light than on the GS3. |

Lol @microkelvin I think you got a faulty device dude. I dont have any prob with my nexus 4. Previously I was on HTC Hero. Super BIG upgrade. Hero does take a good pic ...but thats it.The good ends there. I hardly took any pic in low light. The camera is decent. Photo Sphere is superb. Apps run smooth. I skype, netflix, messaging and pretty much everything on it. No intense game. For $400, my 16gb is worth a device.
I hate when people try to compare s3 with this or even iphone5. Try searching for similar price phone (brand new, unlocked). Or if your pantech is better at taking pic, how is it compare to the rest of the spec? Of course, make sure you got a working nexus 4. ps: Why would anyone want to take pic is super low light (that you need super x-ray eye vision) or try to capture movement of a virus or those kind of stuff? It is a friggin' phone. Last edited by jasper16512; 01-03-2013 at 11:45 AM.. |
google "nexus 4 camera freeze" and "nexus 4 bad camera sensor". skype is almost useless under low light condition. iphone 4 camera handled low light very well. S3 is much better than Nexus 4's for low light but still can't beat iphone 4 camera on any low light conditions. |

It doesn't really prove anything. You can google "samsung galaxy s3 camera freeze" , "iphone 4 camera freeze" , "iphone 5 camera freeze" and you will still get a bunch of threads and results from it. I cant even skype at night with regular desktop web cam, or laptop web cam without any decent light around the room. And again, unlocked brand new iphone 4 cost around $450 for 8gb version if you buy directly from Apple compared to 8g N4 $299 brand new from google. |

it's all about sensor. if you can't skype in low light condition, get a more expensive webcam with the better sensor. a FAR logitech c260 will not do any good. while the more expensive c310 will give you a very bright picture even in a very low light surrounding. |

Btw, I am done talking about camera as it goes nowhere. Have a nice life

I am not lazy to search, and I go to xda all the time. My point is, basically you can google anything and everything will pop up , try the galaxy s3 camera freeze and tell me if you didnt find anything. I don't skype in DARK room that have practically no light at all, my webcam is perfectly fine. If you need a dslr camera, lense on your phone, go build one yourself and sell it for $299. with a new gadget like the Nexus 4, only time will tell when are they going to send a fix to correct that bug....it's not even that widespread since only a few users have reported to Google' support team.. 74 reported comments... https://code.google.com/p/android...ry%20Stars there's even a temp solution... http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...st34972549 "The app only hangs when pressing the blue "Take a snap" button while the focus circle is absent. To take a picture in the dark without problems first tap the screen to focus on a subject. When the focus circle turns green it's safe to take the picture." besides, do you really skype in low light? afraid the other party will see something else? this is a hardware problem (cheap/bad camera sensor). cheap sensor gives bad/dark images on low light condition. the software itself can't auto focus on any low light images, so it freezes up (software bug). its a combination of both worlds. this same v4.2.1 can work better on other better cameras. but for now, there is no quick way to fix it. to fix this problem for this particular nexus 4 phone, they will have to either: 1. replace the camera with a better sensor. (not going to happen) 2. fix the camera app (software) not to hang up if the auto focus is not working right on low light condition. this is fixable (hopefully on next release). they will have to weight if it's worth it to fix just for this flagship phone. or they wont have to fix it because other phones with better sensor wont have this problem. 3. add new feature to their camera app for auto focus to work on low light condition. i am not familiar with camera flash. maybe something called "pre-flash" where the first flash will find the image/distance, then the software will try to focus it, then issue the 2nd flash for the real capture.
i did not see that temp solution before. but the experience was very embarrassing. most of the party pictures are under low light condition. it happened twice on me on 2 different occasions so i said no more on this shitty camera phone. the first one, while everyone was trying to smile, the camera doesn't click. i kept pressing the button like crazy but no response. so it was the first turn off moment with my brand new nexus 4 phone that everyone just talked and touched so much 5 min ago. so i had to use somebody dumb phone (how embarrassing) to take that picture. the 2nd (and the last) is when everyone smiled, the camera flashed on but it's stuck. so i had to reboot the phone. so much for the newest flagship google phone. i skype with my friends in India which has different timezone. so most the time i had to skype while driving out of work or after dark. i was happy with iphone 4 or pantech burst's camera.
