Kindle Fire HD, do you need Amazon power adapter?
Do you really need to get the Amazon branded power adapter for the Kindle Fire HD? Anyone have any experience using a generic brand power adapter and it charge the Kindle Fire HD ok?

The biggest problem with a lot of the generic charger is quality. Many are very poorly made and have pretty bad regulation, and could potentially damage your device or start a fire. There can be some decent less expensive chargers, but do yourself a favor and don't aim for the bottom of the barrel. At $10 if purchased at the same time as the Fire HD, their charger would actually have been pretty good (too bad it wasn't included).
Other chargers get a bit complicated as there are differing standards for the charger to advertise to the device connected to it that it's capable of a higher power output. This breaks down to two categories primarily, apple and everyone else. Any high quality charger capable of 1.8A output or higher would work well. Other chargers and your computer's usb ports will probably charge it but at a slower rate. You get what you pay for, avoid the really cheap and knockoff chargers. |

I've used generic chargers and brand name chargers, and I've never seen a difference. As long as it's got the power to get your device charged, you'll be fine. I've never heard anyone say, "Oh my god, this cheap-ass charger just busted my Droid!" ..just saying.

Do you need one no, I would assume the kindle Fire chargers are a 2A charger as most tablets are. Make sure what you get is 2A otherwise it will make your charging times alot longer. See if you can get a deal on a HP Touchpad Charger. They are usually on sale, 2A and quality.
Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .
