There are many things to consider when installing a surveillance camera system. Most people just buy these and hope that they will work anywhere. I've found that you need to figure out if the cameras will work for your situation, where you want to install them and whether you can get enough coverage to cover your area, while not losing the ability to identify a person's face. These cameras would be OK for a homeowner but generally they're just OK. I needed to upgrade my cameras one by one to real cameras with the right zoom so I can get the reach I need. Even used, each camera location can cost 100 or more to actually provide good coverage with dedicated external IR lights. Do some homework to map out what you need to cover. For my situation I really needed 16 channels to cover the perimeter of our property. I only have eight right now, so I need to upgrade to a 16 channel sooner or later. So be sure what you actually need before buying.

This system spec isn't too bad for a home system. At least it has D1 recording, but does it record at 30fps for all eight channels at D1?

Yes, This is going to be used for my house, 2 in the front 2 on the back, 1 at the porch entrance. I have porch light that stays ON all the time and drive- way has good motion light. About 5 camera is fine for me.

I have used this specific camera on quite a few installs. Works great during the day and adequate at night time. Bugs wreak havoc on the IR during summertime however. Trip the motion like crazy.

The iphone app works fine btw after you get your ports setup correctly on the router.

I saw that in Costco's Black Friday sale, and at $100 off the regular price, it is a good deal. The 600 TVL cameras are a step up from the cameras you normally get from entry level kits like this. And they are 120 ft night vision. Plus a 1 TB. I would have gotten this but I already have 8 cameras set up, and just needed a replacement DVR.
