It was less than what I thought a unit such as this would give me, but it does allow shut down if around or to set up a generator, which I have. The sounds coming from them (at least on mine, drives my dogs totally nuts), I have had people shut off the battery because it "was making a noise and the dogs did not like it" instead of just closing the door. The units are quite heavy. Depending on the type of work you do you might be better off with a running back up system of information rather than a few minutes of power to run the machines. |

I know that Verizon FiOS installs a battery backup in our home for the converter that converts fiber to copper. My guess is that they also have battery backup for the connection all the way up. They need to do that in order to keep the phone line working; the same fiber for our internet and cable TV provides the landline too. Their battery backup does not however provide power for the router or the DVR in the home so a separate battery backup would be needed for them. I did not mention any of that previously because I have no idea what cable company the person asking has, whether FiOS or whatever. It depends entirely on the cable company. Why not? SLA battery inside is a 12V battery.Regular car battery is 12 V, AGM battery is 12 V, Marine battery is 12V, deep cycle battery is 12 V Other than higher capacity and higher current that the car battery can supply, why should it be unsafe? As someone else mentioned, regular car batteries release hydrogen gas when charged, but AGM's or any other sealed batteries should be no different than Seal Lead Acid battery that is used in this unit. I have an older APC 1500 unit, and it has a plug on the back for an external battery pack, which is the size of the UPS it self. That thing uses 2x12V batteries in series as 24V source inside, and 24V external pack, which is probably 4x12 in 2 series in parallel to get the voltage and capacity up. I have that one inline with the sump pump in the basement, so that when the power goes out, the pump still has some run time before I get home to get the generator going. The battery pack on it is going, and I am planning on using 2 AGM "blems" from Interstate for $35 as replacements. 5 TV's in the house with Verizon FiOS and we only pay $3.99/month to connect all 5 of them. Thanks to Ceton InfiniTV4 and CableCard.
