It can MAYBE support a collection of normal, paperback sized books and should be fine for DVDs. If you have a lot of hardcovers or textbook-like books, definitely look for options with thicker shelves.

The Walmart ones, believe it or not, are actually pretty solid. My wife and I are both graduate (career) students, and we have a TON of big, heavy books. These actually do a very good job of holding up, unlike our other shelves which started to bow in the middle.

I want them to have a really tall look, four side-by-side, twice as high (if that makes sense). I plan to use them in my office and use those fabric baskets in them.
