Was about to renew about 7 domains today with 40% discount applied in cart. Did a quick search here and found this, - renewal code got me up to 48% discount.

Having worked for a domain services company, I can tell you that godaddy does a reasonable job of it all around. Their founder and corporate policy are not always my cup of tea, and their prices are just okay after discounts. Mostly, the lack of issues and generally good service are what keeps me as a customer. Kinda pathetic endorsement I know, but there you are.

i too have no issues with them.. i think people get frustrated with their promo emails and what not but i just made a filter for all my godaddy and hosting info to go into and then it doesnt cluttered any of my other mail. also i enjoy the warning emails about the status of domains expiring. ive never used another company so i have nothing to compare it to.. but they do the job as well for me and the prices seems pretty reasonable.

Please. 99% of their customer base doesn't even know what SOPA means. Yeah they got a lot of crap on the various Internet forums, and might have cost them a few tens of thousands in lost revenue, but that was a drop in the bucket for them. Domains have almost no profit margin. They make money on other services like hosting, SSL certs, etc. The average person who was SOPA-aware would be an idiot to have used them for that in the first place.

Also, anyone who plays the NoDaddy card for SOPA is nothing but a hypocrite. Over a hundred other companies supported it too, and no one talks about that - and everyone still happily did and does business with them. GoDaddy was just the easy target.

As I mentioned above, domain registration has very little margin. The Registrars (Verisign, etc.) take the most of that - about $7/domain for .COMs. And then ICANN adds their fees. In the end, the Registry (GoDaddy, etc.) might make a buck or two. Factor in the cost of maintaining all of the equipment, and you need some serious volume to turn a profit. I'm positive GoDaddy makes money on them, don't get me wrong, but it's not like they make much per-domain. They want you to get add-on services.

I've had dozens of domains hosted at GoDaddy for many, many years. Sure their website is obnoxious (see above), but I never get any spam from them. You can easily unsubscribe from all of that.
