safe/cheap way to transfer money from another state ?

online bank transfer. I use Chase and i send money to my friends all over the US. BofA, Wells Fargo. pretty simple.

Set up a HSBC online savings account. Deposit money in there. Have your parents withdraw it back to their bank.

All of this assuming money = funds and not actual physical bills or going to the bank.

just stick it in a bank account with both parties names on it. You can withdrawal your money anywhere. Hell, anyone can deposit money into bank account so you dont even need to go that far. Your brother can deposit money into your parents account.

As others say in today's world of multinational banks and ease of opening accounts without much effort it makes no sense to pay anyone a fee to regularly transfer money.

Your brother can open a bnak account at INGDirect.com or TDWaterhouse and request an ATM card and simply make deposits at local branch. Or in reverse if parents have an existing account they deposit the money order the can give the account number and your brother simply deposit.

While banks don't like to give free checking - they still do for new business and take advantage of it.

You might want to file a report with the post office. Mail theft is a felony. Even if it isn't your mailman doing it, if they get enough reports from one area they'll investigate.

The post office is supposed to be the most secure way of sending stuff. I think even classified government and military documents are sent with regular first class mail.
