In the end the consumer is who suffers here. But nothing can be done, really. Still, AMD will survive making low and midgrade end CPUs and high end GPUs. Their new FM2 A10 cpus are the same power roughly as the core 2 quads with a built in gpu that would high end from that same era (about 2008). Not a bad value for $100ish. Not bad whatsoever considering this is more processing power than most people need even today. So AMD might turn a profit again soon. The bulldozer effort however was their last effort at the high end. Will die soon enough because making 8 core cpus and selling them wholesale for $150 or so is just not profitable. Yeah I always had AMD CPU's in the past and had no qualms with them. I switched to a first gen i5-760 when they were released because I found a sweet below cost deal. Now I feel bad for AMD
If I was ready for an upgrade I'd easily pick up an 8320 over any of Intel's offerings. It just has the best bang for buck value if you want a good cheap high end gaming PC. Also just to try and help keep them in business.

Likewise, have you ever noticed how AMD's chipsets on their motherboards are always superior in components and goodies? Seriously, the current south bridge line-up (SB810 and the 9xx series I think?) offers like 6x SATA3 ports along with RAID 0/1/5/10 etc and several USB3 inputs. Intel's offerings on the other hand are extremely lacking. Their budget boards at best offer 2x SATA3 ports and usually don't have RAID and maybe have 2 USB3 on the back. |

I would say Nvidia's inability to secure a contract with any of the three platform holders (Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo) is a bigger cause for concern for them. Last edited by Staticks; 11-30-2012 at 05:51 PM.. |

So no tears for Nvidia I was really frugal UNTIL I saw all these slickdeals.

Tempting, my son currently has an FX8120 running @ 4.2GHz in his PC, and it spanks anything he throws at it, so I'll probably pass for now. The way AMD is doing, these are only going to get cheaper.

AMD at this moment already has to pawn off its campus in Texas. I'm hearing faint echoes of a swan song. Intel on the other hand isn't even looking in AMD's direction anymore because ARM is now breathing down their necks- Look at how Broadwell chips would be solder-on is rather telling, in how they'd have to cut costs like crazy just to stay in the same race as ARM. It's a different world. |
