Thread Details

This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

They do not have inventory checker. Also, no scotch in Chicago or northwest suburb stores.

Checked the stores in the Northern Illinois region but nothing was available. The inventory checker said there were several in southern Wisconsin and Northwestern Indiana with a few hundred bottles on hand, but they can't ship them. From what I could see, the stores that had them in the Midwest all had 300+ on hand with more incoming, and those that didn't weren't ordering any in the near future.

Just picked up a bottle of 20yr in Lake Zurich, IL store. Plenty in stock.
Lake in the Hills, IL also has about 100 bottles left. When you call, give them the number, don't ask for the 20 y/o single malt because they will tell you no.

Last time I tried bourbon, i basically spit it out it was so strong.
Do you guys have like...gnarly, grizzled mouths that let you taste this stuff? Cause, when I've tried it, the liquor has gone in the mouth and been pewed out relatively quickly

That's odd. I went back in with the item number this morning on my way to work and they double checked and said they had nothing like that, and then asked if the Glenlivet 12 would suffice. I saw them look in the inventory checker and a bunch of 000's came up in nearby stores (though, I called the Lake Zurich store tonight after pjs999's post and they had lots in stock). Any idea what the issue is? Perhaps a separate item number in midwest stores?

To each his own. If you like the cheap stuff, more power to ya.

When you look at who is happy around the world, often the people with the least are the happiest. Americans consume at a rapid rate and still don't rate highly despite their drive to possess material goods.

This Kirkland 20 year is an item I look to possess.

This thread got me excited to try this, I hate all alchohol but wanted to try 20 year old scotch. Brandon, FL Costco has plenty and they arent flying off the shelf.

I dont like it at all.
That sounds like one bottle wasted right there. Imagine if this bottle had feelings, it waited 20 years and for what!!!

You should try the Montecristo #2's. I rank it higher than the Bolivar. Big Grin

Are different Costco stores carrying different year Macallan right now (not in the past)? I believe mine (Pewaukee, WI) had 15 year but some here are claiming theirs had 18?

FYI or should I say IMO bourbon is a different animal than scotch. But that is my tastes, I love scotch, but cant stand the taste of burbon... I have tried many and still prefer scotch(single/blended)! Try a good single malt like this speyside and you will see it is much milder. Also... sip, dont gulp. And try sips of water in between, unlocks some of the flavors Smilie

Strange. Maybe they didn't get delivery until after you were there? I called from work in the AM and asked if they had the 20 year whisky and was informed that they did not. I then called again before I left work with the number and was told they had 108 bottles left. I stopped and bought 2 bottles.

In the Lake in the Hills location, the 20 year (I didn't look for the 15) is located on the last stack which faces the wine. It is the first item on the stack at about eye level.

socal update: as of yesterday late afternoon, the bottles haven't even reached their distribution center. they're receiving 21,000 bottles to be divvied up in the greater la area (including OC & inland empire). some costcos "excepted" stock by the 4th, some by the 5th. maybe the truck carrying the goods "disappeared"

JRs has some great cigars it is great they have them ast Costco's, I think the Monty's are better constructed then the Boli's and the Boli's flavor does not seem as consistently good as the Monty's.

Does Costco sell cigars? If so, what do you guys recommend for great value (i.e. on par with this whiskey, sick price, great product etc). TY TY.
