Thread Details

This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

Update. Purchased two bottles in Alpharetta GA location. 45 bucks. They had at least 80 bottles. Perimeter location had at least 100 bottles when I called.

Tasting impressions: Insanely smooth. Very nice hints of sherry with first taste, and a slight spicy finish. For the money, you are not going to get much better value. Probably about equal to 90-110 dollar range speyside varieties I have tried.

Can you guys stop talking about Vodka in here? kthxbai
Well the links I provided for Vodka apply equally to this thread since they are for International wine and spirits competitions that compare every brand that wants to compete and give it a ranking Stick Out Tongue just remove "vodka" from the search and replace it with your alcohol of choice. But yeah the vodka discussion went on pretty long.

I know very little about whisk(e)y. Am I right in assuming that whisky, unlike wine, does not continue to mature in the bottle? In other words, I assume it doesn't make much sense to buy the stuff and lay in down for 30 years in the hope that it will appreciate? I'm also guessing that even if it did, a CostCo brand might not be the one to choose.

damn... I wish costco had the liqour stores in Dallas.
dont worry, down here in San Antonio we have the liquor stores attached to the costco's but no Kirkland branded stuff is stocked in the store ever... so Im sure it would be the same for Dallas area... so no chance for us to try this one out

So, SoCal? I'll hit up Northridge on Wednesday and report back, but any info on Burbank or Marina Del Rey/Culver City would be appreciated!

No go at Costco in Indy, but they did have a Kirklands small batch bourbon I decided to pick up and try for $20 (1L)

Olde English has more of a distinguished taste w/ hints of hazelnut and slight tobacco aftertones. Definitely more of an after dinner drink or perhaps an 11am wakeup. The 20 year scotch malt has slight comparisons but after drinking 40 oz of it I was feeling sick to my stomach. Overall the OE 800 easily beats the Single malt in terms of something I can drink on my porch, hollering at passing women, at 9 in the morning.

It will not improve in time after you buy it, unless you mix it with two or three Twinkies. and bury in the ground in a banana leaf for 2 months.

They do not have inventory checker. Also, no scotch in Chicago or northwest suburb stores.

End of the world is coming ... $45 is a steal. Let's get the party started! Would really love to try this. I hope my local Costco has it.

At $45, this or Glenlivet or Johnnie Walker black or something else brand name?

I would like to try it, but at $45 I'm hesitant to buy a store brand, when I could just very well plop my money down for a competitor, brand name whiskey, that I have tried and know what I'm getting.

I went to the Signal Hill one and they checked the computer. Computer shows that shipment will be in by the 5th. Same for several stores around here. Looks like Socal are all getting them on the 5th
