Thread Details

This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

At $45, this or Glenlivet or Johnnie Walker black or something else brand name?

I would like to try it, but at $45 I'm hesitant to buy a store brand, when I could just very well plop my money down for a competitor, brand name whiskey, that I have tried and know what I'm getting.
JW is blended, this is single malt. Yes you can find some scotch 10, 12 or even 15 year, but good luck finding a 20 year at this price. Being private label makes it a little more mysterious.

Another thread by justinre reported a northern California Costco has gotten the KS private label 15 year from The Macallan Distillery, as follows, credit goes to him if you like it:
$50 750mL bottle. Item 419432. Kirkland Signature from Macallan Distillery Single Malt Scotch Whiskey

Why not pick up one of each if you have access to both and sample them side by side ...

What do you mix this with? Vernors?
45 bucks seems like a lot for some booze. I'll stick with some Jim.

Thanks. It seems like the west coast is getting the 15 Year Kirkland Signature from Macallan, while the east coast is getting the 20 Year Kirkland private label. I worked with a front end rep to try to find the 20, but the only item she could find me was the 15.

I'm just starting to try whiskey, switching from beer. I'm looking for something to sip at night straight or on the rocks in the $45 dollar range that is easy going down and very smooth. You guys obviously know more than me, and unfortunately I'm in f*cking PA with backwards liquor laws so this is not available at costco. Can you guys give me a few suggestions. Thanks

Is there sarcasm in there I'm not seeing????

At 30, I can no longer drink the cheap stuff just to get drunk anymore. I have aquired a taste for the finer liquors, wines, and beers in life. Expensive but wonderful habit! No more getting crazy drunk though!

Question is, how many should I stock up! Deals like this only around for a couple of weeks, or until sold out, once a year. I just bought my first home and I'm about to move in next weekend. Been buying so many things for the house made my pocket pretty light! I was thinking 12 but I might just do 6 bottles.

One does not mix 20 year old Scotch. In fact, one should probably not even put it on the rocks, but to each his own.

My favorites probably would knock you out of your boots, but I'd suggest Balvenie and Glenmorangie as good starting points for smooth, mild flavor. Try and track down a whisky tasting if you can, I go to one every year with 200 bottles available for tasting. Much better than buying a $40-60 bottle blind.
