This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

How does this compare to 18 year Chivas?
This just came out, so you aren't going to get many real reviews.

Chivas is a blended whisky, this is a single malt. Single malts generally (not always) command a higher price.

They are both made in speyside from whisky aged 18-20 years. The extra two years aren't magical. They will just mellow things out a bit more.

Both are likely good stuff. I'd love to try a bottle for $45. Drink what you like.

While we are at it, I heard the ks private label vodka is a great value, triple(?) distilled in France, some say it tastes like Grey Goose, at 1/2 the price. You do have to get them in1.75 liter tall bottles. I stocked up a few at $30 each and today i found it reduced to $23.99

It does taste like Grey Goose and I heard Kirkland actually purchased the distillery.

they have a few things... see below

yeah this has stated many times... the same makers of grey goose... so get your kirkland grey goose for half the cost!!!
Why do people compare to grey goose as being a good buy? grey goose is a mid tier vodka that's generally very over priced for it's ranking. You can buy $13-15 vodkas that rank in the mid 90's and regularly take home gold awards so why would you pay more than that for something that tastes like a mediocre vodka?

Can you provide a link for vodka rankings?....I tried google and couldn't find any vodka rankings. Very curious as I usually buy Grey Goose and would love a cheaper higher ranked alternative.

I didnt say it was the best bang for the buck.. but the costco kirkland price makes it competitive... esp if you got costco amex/costco executive 2% cash back and are already at costco...

grey goose has a "name"... just like patron has a "name" for tequila... IMO patron is $hit and I try to avoid it, even for free...the masses buy names not best bang for the buck or best at the lowest price... look at apple... isheep buy marketing and "name"....

what do you like to drink?

there is also european rankings

Edit: Here's another link I found with rankings it's not a competition but does actually have Grey Goose included in the ranking since I don't even think Grey Goose has done a competition since Bacardi bought them.

Mid tier?

I don't think grey goose is a good buy at all but it's certainly not mid tier or mediocre.

Understood but slickdeals is generally about best bang for the buck which definitely does not apply to grey goose... it's like the starbucks of vodka it's really mid range as far as quality goes but it's exactly the same everywhere you go.

I generally go with in no particular order Stoli, Absolut, Ketel One, Van Gogh, Chopin, Monopolowa.

It definitely is, it's just a name that's everywhere it's not a great drink. If you randomly asked me what vodka you should get at random place for random person I would probably say Grey Goose because it's always exactly the same so you know exactly what you're getting every time. That's not to call it good but it's completely consistent so I do suggest it and if I'm some place that Grey Goose is the best name I recognize there I'll probably pick it but beyond that I don't have much good to say about it since it's generally very overpriced and pretty mediocre.

What's wrong with Albertson's Vodka?! You drink alcohol to get drunk! As a Slickdealer, as long as you get drunk, it doesn't matter if it's Louie 13th or rubbing alcohol! bounce
