This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

Plenty of both the 15 year and 20 year at Bolingbrook, IL as of yesterday. Think they just got a new shipment because I was also there on thursday and only saw one 15 year left.

I was in the store in Edison, NJ this afternoon and asked an associate that was working the department about the 20 year scotch. They did not have it but he said there were 2 others in today also asking about it. Must have been slickdealers.

I just got back from a trip to Edison night and they had it. I won;t be sampling it tonight though

after someone updated the wiki that edison had it, i went on thursday night. I ended up getting two bottles. suppose it wont go bad, but definitely wont finish all two for at least a year plus. tried a little bit last night. not a scotch person, so i cannot compare. it is mild when it first hits your mouth. finishes with a slight spicy ending. it's a bit bitter for my taste (i'm more into liquer like Gran Marinier, etc). hopefully drinking this 20 y.o. stuff will help me spread out my tastes.

Although I haven't read through all 694 messages here, I think someone early in the thread had a Scotch expert peg this as Glenfiddich, not Macallan. After picking up a bottle, I would say that they are most likely correct.

I say this because there are very few Scotches I dislike. One of them is Glenfiddich 12. It's not that Glenfiddich 12 is bad, it's that there's nothing there. It's dull, without character, made for the masses, the McDonald's of Scotch, and exactly not what you want in a Scotch. This describes the Kirkland 20 to a tee, except that it's smooth, real smooth. And then you're done. Nothing interesting, no flavor shift, no lingering aftertaste, just smooth. And I've had Macallan 18, and there's no way this is that, or anything close.

So, if I were buying this as Glenfiddich 21 and paying $120, I'd be mad. For $55, it's fair value. But there are a lot of other Scotches I'd rather buy for $55-$60, so I won't be stocking up. One bottle is enough.

How does this compare to Woodford Reserve? I'm just starting to pick up on taste for whiskey, and so far Woodford Reserve is my favorite. I can't really describe how it tastes, but I sure like it.

Woodford is way too sweet for my tastes...but macallan is a sherried whisky so you might like it. That said, this might not be a macallan after all. lol

Just a quick question, I'm not a whiskey drinker really (single malt or blended) but my brother is. Every Christmas I buy him a bottle of the Glenlivet 12 yr which is his preferred guilty pleasure (he looks forward to it now every year LOL). I was thinking about stepping it up a notch this year and have seen these two Kirkland bottles at Costco (20 yr and 15 yr, can't remember off hand which was the Speyside but I know only $5 separates them). Which one of these would be the best upgrade for him? Or is it none of these? I know they have the 18 yr Glenlivet too... willing to try something different if it's better, but it's tough for me to judge as it's not my adult beverage of choice.
If you want to make him really happy get him the Glenlivet 3 pack of 12, 15, 18.

Tucson Costco has plenty left. Kicking myself now for not picking up more. I tasted it tonight and it is smooooooth ( I guess I had my share of bad stuff all along).

Hey, a fellow Tucsonan!

As said, both the northwest and eastside Costco's have at least a palette full left. Picked up three bottles for myself and one for my roommate - not that I know much about scotch, but I find this to be great stuff.

I hear it goes well with grape soda. nod
According to the bottle it is best served over ice.

seriously? quite odd that a 20 year old single malt would actually advertise serving over ice.
