This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

Monopolowa is really good especially chilled, and it's only 10 bucks at Trader Joes here. They also have a speyside 21 for under 40 if I recall correctly but will try to go to Costco in the eastbay to see if there is any Kirkland sig available

Not to threadjack but as this veered into vodka I thought I'd mention Costco also has KS branded 100% agave blanco tequila now as well. $18 for 1.75l.

I'm no cunny-sewer but found it to be quite decent. A bit muted on the vegetal flavors perhaps compared
others but for a price cheaper than Cuervo, its abt as slick as it gets for 100% agave tequila.

For those that have scored the 20 year old KS single malt scotch, drink up and post a review here.

On Bookers: about $41 for a regular size bottle with wooden case. Other retailers in the area sell it for anywhere between $46 - $50+ regular price. YMMV. This one is up there among my favorites.

How does this stack against Gold/Blue label?
1. Please do not compare JW against single malt scotch. (It is not the same)
ALSO if you live in an area with asian grocery stores JW blue can be found for 130 a bottle, which I think is pretty damn good. If you are in SoCal 168 off valley and garfield has it. I passed as for that money I could buy 3 of these bottles.

JW is blended, which means it isn't aged and barreled, they blend different whiskies together to create a desired taste.

JW is backed by one of the biggest alcochol companies in the world (DIAGEO) and has extremely good marketing, similar to how I would always prefer don julio, all I ever hear is patron and that's because they spend money on their marketing really well.

2. Single match scotch is defined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_malt_Scotch
3. Costco never marks up items more than 15% so this upcoming buy should be good.
4. SoCal Reports shipments incoming Dec. 4/5

all i can say is the more I drink it, the more i like it. it's very very smooth and i've had it for 3 nights in a row in moderate volume, both straight and on the rocks. i am no expert on this however.
