anybody know the Costco price for the Lagavulin 16 year?
Costco's selection tend to be limited and i've not seen Lagavulin 16 in my area. They used to carry Oban years ago that I liked.
To Kxie: Glenfiddich, like Glenlivet, is one of the best selling Speyside malt, so it is possible this year's is Glenfiddich based. A quick search shows Glenfiddich 18 commands $70 and 21 year is about $130. Gotta love Costco. I'd be thrilled if it's still Macallan based like last year but I doubt it.
I wandered into the Pembroke Pines, Fl branch just to see if they were carrying it. When I saw that they did have it, I decided to pickup a bottle. As I'm waiting to pay another customer picked up 4 bottles. He told me that he has been buying the series religiously for years.
I'm not a scotch connesuer, I normally drink 12 yr old Appletons rum and Basil Hayden's bourbon.
Bouqet: a subtle sweetness with smokey notes. usually I find a lot of scotches to be too sharp for my nose, but not this one
Taste: as expected with a 20 yr old, the flavors are smooth and refined. smokey notes with a little honey and a subtle lingering aftertaste that (to my uneducated palette) includes a hint of (laugh if you will) pink bubble gum.
Did you find any? Thats my Costco, are the prices much cheaper than specs? I've only gone to it once but it was a few years back.
posted back on page 3 - but edited it here bc I posted from my phone..
"yeah I went today and checked about it being in the addition building that has the liquor... its confirmed... they used to sell liquor IN STORE, but no longer do that and thats why they now have the building added to the side of the costco...for the last approx 3 years.. some law changed... and bye bye to selling liquor inside costco's... so they built those building additions to some stores in texas but they still dont sell Kirkland branded liquor... I had just assumed they did bc they sell all kinds of other liquors, but they do not sell Kirkland branded liquor... Ive seen the Kirkland branded beers though, but its random when they have them from what I remember...
Maybe its costcos choice to not offer Kirkland branded liquor in our area or ??? I dont know whey they wouldnt though... anyone know the reason?"
Picked up a bottle today in Waltham, MA. Couldn't wait, so cracked it open for an afternoon Scotch. I'm not great with the descriptions, but I'd put it somewhere between a Glenmorangie and a Macallan, but considerably smoother than either (comparing it to the 10-12 year expressions).
Overall though, I still prefer the other bottles that I get in this price range, namely Balvenie Doublewood, Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10. I do generally prefer the peated Scotches, which this is not.
laphroaig and ardbeg FTW
islay all the way but i will pick up a bottle of this once i spot it
just picked up the lagavulin 16 from costco yesterday
FYI just be careful which Kirkland Vodka you buy. One is made in America and like $15 and the other is over seas at ~$24. Haven't tried the American one but the other one is mighty good.
Going out to grab a bottle of this stuff here in Madison, WI.(checked earlier but wanted to see other reviews before purchasing) Haven't ever had a bottle of good scotch so at this price it's worth a shot. Hell maybe 2, one to drink and another to save....for later
So the Middleton Costco did have it in stock? Might just have to head out after football today.
The Kirkland American Vodka is pretty darn good in my opinion. Comparable to a Svedka or similar Vodka. Obviously not as good as their Grey Goose knockoff but definitely worth the ~$15
Costco in Northeast US doesn't sell anything except Glenlivet 12yr, Macallan 12yr and Dalhwnie 15yr in terms of single malt. They only sell private label once a year between thanksgiving and Christmas.
Also they never have any rebates on liquor that I have seen on Single malt and blended whiskey. Sucks.
Wish they had Oban, Lagavulin, Laproaig, Ardbeg or higher end Macallan.
