Those apps are expensive (at least on android they cost about as much as this GPS), plus they have horrible reviews. I have never tried them, for those reasons. It's much easier to return a faulty GPS to walmart than an app that doesn't work well.

I purchased Navigon USA for $30. It's the iphone version and i have been very happy with it. I bought the recent Garmin ebay deal but mostly for convenience. Other then taking voice commands, the Navigon app is as good as a high-end GPS device. The traffic live did cost me another $15.

Great math skills.It's not a dealbreaker for me but apparently is for some.......

I had a Tom Tom, then a Magellan, and now a Garmin (gave the other two away), and my wife and I both have a smarthphone with GPS's. Unless you buy a program (or get it by "other means") on your phone with preloaded maps, it is way easier to just use a dedicated GPS. Also, my phone takes way to long to find a satellite (I have a Samsung Infuse), so that's why I always go to my GPS. Don't get me wrong, I would rather not buy a GPS, but they work so well and so easy to use, I always end up using it instead of my phone. BTW, this is back in stock!
