Very tempted to bite on this. After getting the LOTR 15-disc blu-ray set I'm finally ready to stop buying DVDs and have all future purchases be blu-ray.
What is everyone's preferred software solution for (1) blu-ray movie playback and (2) ripping blu-rays to your HD? Buy AnyDVD HD and use it with MakeMKV? Is there a free solution that will work in place of AnyDVD HD??
Again, anybody compare this in ripping speed to the 12x Asus BD-ROM or Lite-on 12x BD-ROM drives?
I'm not interested in the writer portion, but will use for ripping in an HTPC, so want good speeds / quality, good blu-ray playback, quiet operation. The fact this one is about $15-$20 cheaper than the BD-ROM drives is looking tempting, but wondered about those three factors (and yes, I know you need blu-ray software for straight playback).
