Thanks for the deal and the research. My alert tripped.
I am looking for stainless steel one (like this), but never got comfortable with high price. I'm undecided ( I never understood the high priced ones) Regrdless, this sounds like a good deal, if you need one. |

I'm a little tired of cheap kitchen appliances that almost useless and dies during a year.
My friends uses this cooker/steamer and rice always perfect, automatically. Though, I like $10 price better than $69  ))

Price jacked up. I got the 10G SF for $70 two years ago from newegg.
Those steamer works really good. Never had problem with sticky rice in the pot like before. |

those rice cookers are programed for Asian rice, e.g. Jasmin rice from Thailand, not those long grain rice.

on the fence about buying this because I rarely eat rice anymore, but I'm interested in the other things you can cook in there. would i be better off just buying a dedicated steamer, or would this work as a great steamer and be even more versatile?

imho the main profit of this machine is a cooking a rice rightly. If you need just a steamer, you could buy something cheaper and roomier.

Hmm, not much price fluctuation for the "TATUNG TAC-11KN(UL) Silver 10 Cup Stainless Steel Rice Cooker" listed in OP for $115 FS, no tax (List $159). I bought this exact rice cooker from Newegg back in June for $107.99 ($119.99 - $12 Newegg promo coupon). If you keep an eye on the prices, you should see prices fluctuate and promos here and there for these items on Newegg. As for the rice cooker, it was my mom who requested I buy this for her upon recommendation from her friend and my mom wanted to use it to cook soup. I'd say it's pretty versatile but I haven't seen her use it much thus far. It could just be lazy me only coming out when dinner is served haha.

As an asian person, I'd like to attest to the deliciousness of the rice cooked using a Ta-Tung cooker.
But no opinion on the price...no idea how good or bad of a price it is. |
