Thread Details

Pepboys has a deal where you can buy 5 qts Mobil 1 oil with Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. I searched the forums and the other deal which was the same expired on November 30, 2012. This is the same deal, but with a new coupon that expires December 31, 2012.

You can use this for the EP version of the oil, which does cost more than the normal Mobil 1 oil.

This is the best deal and they extended the coupon to expire at the end of this month.

Is EP? extended performance Synthetic oil?
Why do you need EP? Isn't that like 18k miles vs 10k miles rating or something

hmm. tried in on Madison, TN location .... no go ... for synthetic only !
Should work. I tried it in Everett, MA and it went through fine. Once he scanned the coupon everything was discounted. Mobil 1 EP is also synthetic oil...it's not like Mobil 1 is synthetic and Mobil 1 EP isn't. Did the cashier scan the coupon or just told you that you can't use it? Sometimes the cashiers don't know what they're doing.

EP lasts longer than the regular Mobil 1 oil. EP is guaranteed to last 15k miles between oil changes. There is no guarantee on any other Mobil 1 products and you are recommended to change oil between the normal service intervals.

Coupon works fine on EP. You just need to convince them to can it. This is a smoking hot deal if you choose to use EP either way.

Car says change oil every 10k.. That would be running it 5k past what the car likes.

The EP should be fine for 15k in a car that calls for 10k. But is the war under warranty? That is the difference-maker.

Synthetic oil is significantly longer lasting than dino oil. You should be able to use Mobil 1 EP for twice as long as what the car manufacturer states in the manual. I wouldn't recommend it past 15k, but it should be definitely fine for up to 15k miles.

You should make sure you install the Mobil 1 EP filter though, as it is the only "approved" filter that could filter oil up to 15k miles. Some filters are really poorly made, and will deteriorate after 5k miles. Mobil 1 EP is actually the best oil filter money can buy, according to online reviews and even dissection of oil filters from different companies/brands.

Thanks, OP! Worked perfectly well for me for EP 0w-20 oil and EP Mobil 1 cartridge filter. Local Walmart doesn't carry 0w-20 oil. As others have stated, the total got discounted automatically once the coupon was scanned. It was $132.xx before the coupon for 10 quarts and two filters. I will probably go again and get some more this week.

If this works on cartidge style filters, too, that will be super slick deal!! Most of the time, the Advance Auto/Autozone oil change deals only include a filter up to $xx (usually $12) - the cartridge style filters (2004 Cavalier and 2010 Camaro - damn you Chevy!!) usually run closer to $15-20 OMG

Hell, even the Amazon sale excluded these filters :/

See my post. Worked for me for the cartridge filter, which was listed at $19.99 at the store.

SWEET! Thanks for the update, and reps! You said that you bought two deals at once....did you need two coupons, or just one in the same transaction?

Thanks!

The coupon said "limit 2", and one coupon took off the amount for both set of oil and filters automatically.

Yes, but you get significantly worse quality oil. You can find these quick oil change places that will change your oil for less than $20, but they usually put the worst cheap quality oil they can get their hands on. How do you think those places make money? They're giving you the worst stuff possible to maximize profit and labor costs. The oil and filter combined probably costs less than $2.

Most likely they get the re-recycled oil that's been repurified again after the plant receives the drums of old used oil. That's why they call it "synthetic blend" because the used oil is from many different cars, which could contain synthetic or dino oil. The oil they put in your car is not nearly as good nor won't be as long lasting as new synthetic oil such as Mobil 1.

Also, the oil filters that you get from those quickie oil change places are also significantly worse. They probably use oil filters with cardboard endcaps with no antidrainback valve, instead of metal such as the Mobil 1 Oil Filter with a silicon valve.

In fact, if you go to a place like Jiffy Lube and ask for their Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic oil change deal, they will charge you $69.99! You get what you pay for, and the deal I posted is actually an excellent deal. What I do is I bring the stuff to my mechanic, and he can do the oil change for me for $20.

I normally go to my Toyota dealer, they send out coupon for oil change for $20 when ever I am due..

Thanks for explaining

How long do you usually run EP on your car? I usually run it for 6 months and put maybe 3k miles on it during that period. Should i be running it for longer or shorter?
