Dang, I really want to get my hands on an SSD this week, but the failure rate (according to reviews) is just too high on this model.

I have one of the 128gb m4's, and most of the complaints are from people that didn't update their firmware.

Older versions of the firmware had a bug that only showed up when the drive had been powered on for over 5000 hours. If you update to the firmware version 0309, you won't have that problem.

I recommend going with firmware version 0309 for now. It's a little older but very stable. Some people have had problems with the firmware after 0309, but as mentioned here: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid...d-p/113882 crucial is releasing a new firmware in mid December that will hopefully fix the problems they're having.

I upgraded to new one. Every few days it can't find the drive. I think the new one is 10g or something like that. Do you have any trouble like that?

I never installed 10g because I heard some people had problems. Firmware 0309 is very stable for me though. I'd recommend downgrading to it if you're able to.

Basically I've been happy with my m4, but I don't recommend upgrading to the newest firmware until you've seen it's stable.

This is one of the best consumer SSDs, and people here love OCZ garbage just because it's cheap, so I don't see what the problem is. buy this if you need one

Bought my 512GB version of this 2 years ago, when they were still 800$. Got it for 350$.

Runs just fine 24/7 ever since.

Will definitely be buying Crucial or Intel next upgrade.

I really want to pull the trigger on this, but there are a lot of reviews from people who say this drive died around 6 month mark.

I want this to be my boot drive and I sure wouldn't want any downtime or lost data.

I have Intel and Crucial drives, both very nice for sure. Intel of course buys their chips from micron/crucial and runs them with a sandforce controller.
