The problem is the image quality. While it's convenient, even the various companies' 18-55mm lenses have better image quality than this. And today, when Nikon's cheapest camera is 24 megapixel, and every Canon besides the T3 is 18, it really shows flaws in weak lenses like this. I'd say to look elsewhere for a lens.

Problem is that most of these super range lenses lack in quality. If you want good quality, you need to get separate lenses to cover telephoto and wide angle. For the price, this is an ok lens, but yes, don't expect tack sharp images.

I thought otherwise on the image quality. Though, this cannot be compared with dedicated Telephoto or Macro lenses, for a All-in-one this seems to have better image quality. This lens should be very convenient as Travel Zoom. I'm new to SLR and it was difficult for me to change lenses during travel and to carry those heavy telephoto lenses (i returned Tamron 70-300 SP VC after my recent trip to Boston).

Have you tried this lens? I was relying on the reviews from Amazon and DP Review. Btw, I've Nikon D5100 which is 16 MP.

I was thinking of getting an all-in-one like this before also ( also with a 5100). Ended up just using the kit 18-55 and buying a 55-200 VR for $150 when it was on sale. Quality was much better, and carrying around an extra lens isn't too bad, considering how light the 55-200 is. Plus its much cheaper.

I don't agree. This is one of my favorite lenses. My only issue is lens creep, which I tackled with a lens band.

so i was almost about to pull the trigger on a nikon 18-105mm for $250 (new from a d7000 kit). Now Im thinking of getting this instead. any input? other lenses I have are the 18-55, and 35mm. I hoping to sell the 18-55mm if I get this.

Yes, I ran into the same thing when I looked up this lens for Canon cameras. I think B&H has 2 different Web pages for the product, one under a "Sigma Lenses Specials" category and the other is the regular non-sale page. When you just do a search for the description, you get the standard page, but the original link gets you into the specials section of their Web site and I was able to see the discounted price for the Canon version of the lens there.
