What the hell, returning my 7mm version despite the slightly-or-rather-huge performance difference betwixt that and the mSata version (on my X220), but having a free bay is worth it... for another SSD. :-)
This is not a standard 2.5" SSD--this is a drive designed for laptops (and desktop motherboards) with mSATA slots. Basically, if your laptop (or desktop) has such a slot, you can save a drive bay and use an SSD in the mSATA slot and a high-capacity mechanical disk in the main drive bay. If you don't know what it is, it's probably not the drive you want.
This is the third time the drive has been available for this price. It's the first time I've seen it for this price at Amazon.
Very good deal. Only thing to be aware of is that many mSATA slots are SATA2 and will not be as fast as a SATA3 (my Thinkpad T420 has a SATA2 mSATA and a SATA3 for the main drive). The practical effect on a normal user is negligible, but if you move big files around, be advised.
