Wifi Issue on Venture
Hi SDers. I hope most of us on this thread are enjoying the dirt cheap Venture right now. I use Talkatone app and need to keep the wifi connection alive so as to be able to receive phone calls on my Google voice number. Is anyone having a problem in keeping the wifi connection alive when the phone screen turns off? I have had this phone for a few days and have noticed that it does not maintain the wifi connection, even though I have set it to keep wifi alive when the screen is off (in the wireless and networks settings menu). I have even tried a few apps from Play store like "keep wifi alive", "keep wifi", "keep wifi on" etc but none of them seems to have helped the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Edit: Just to be clear, I am using the stock rom (no modification, have not even rooted the phone) and the phone has not been activated on the VM Network either. That's a good question and I hadn't thought of that. I have made outgoing calls with my Venture but not gotten any incoming calls. But seems like you would need to keep the wifi active and connected of course.
This thread has given me some great ideas..this phone was definitely worth $20 |

I'm not sure if anyone will read this now. I bought one of these but it has google market not google play. When I try to install anything it brings up the google play terms of service but no "accept" button. I click on google play and it takes me to the browser version. If I try to install from there it indicates I must first access the play store from the button.Anyone else have trouble like this?
OK I restarted the phone and the update button clicks on for a moment and disappears... just had to click it really fast Last edited by bapster; 12-25-2012 at 05:08 PM.. Reason: update |

Re: Venture
Google Play works for me and I could download anything I want, no limitation so far. --but what I hate: IPGroove only works with speakerphone, this is not convenient at all! You cannot use SKYPE with the rear camera, I don't understand why, but it doesn't work.. Otherwise it was the BEST $20 I ever spent on a technology purchase. Incredible deal. I just need to find a WMC remote and try it, most of those mentioned does not work well, they are really bad. There are 2-3 paid ones that seems to be full featured WMC app, but I have to be really quick and try those and if they don't work well I have to apply for refund, I think it only gives 15 minutes? |

ok so I got the LG Optimus Slider Prepaid Smartphone. I'm not real good at all of this but can work around a computer. Can anyone please tell me what's the most cost effective way to get this phone either switched to a new number or keep old cell number. The phone will be a primary cell used mostly with WiFi but not always. I tried to activate it online with the paylo plan and it didn't have that as an option just the other monthly plan. Thanks in advance.

see my posting on de-branding the your phone here http://slickdeals.net/f/5579144-V...?&page=155
I flashed a slider over to Page Plus, it was a royal pain in the ass. Follow this video to get your SPC code, getting the drivers to work can be a bitch use cdmaDevTerm - Beta v.2 03/12¶ super beta the Alpha version did not work and I spend so many hours on it. (Connect, change to LG, and read) that’s it. But I had a hard time getting the right drivers installed because I have I think Android Drivers from about 7 different models of phones from Past Projects. More than likely you will have to force windows to install the right drivers. You will need to add your PRL back if you do OTA programming http://code.google.com/p/cdmawork...pToo http://cdmaworkshoptoo LG driver is linked in this tread and the fist few pages contains driver info. I had to turn my phone of to get the port to connect. http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...p?t=991668 In short root it, download the drivers fight with the windows to install the correct drivers, once you have the drivers installed use CdmaDevTerm to get your SPC, after you figure witch port to select because now you have like four of them available, Call PP and get a MND and MIN and have them add your ESN to the network, add a PP PRL, honestly I don't even think that you have to do the manual programming in QPST you could just do the over the air program and it should populate most of those fields for you. To be safe I used the same guide for the V one in terms of profile settings and manually applied them. Reboot make a test call. I have not tested 3G because I am not sure I am ever going to use it as a phone but I have gone through my 2 dollar credit ($2 credit that they give you =20 mins) MMS.Fix for the Slider on Page Plus • Dial ##3282# • Select MMSC • Select Edit • enter your service code (hopefully you have changed it to 000000) • Select edit mode • Enter your url as http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms. • Done Last edited by LILLYS_CLOSET; 01-07-2013 at 02:25 PM.. |

I Bricked my slider that i brought over to Page Plus messing around where i should not have been. However, after a little Holly water...its alive...its alive
Anyway just a heads up I memtioned that the drivers were a challange. I found a better way to install the drivers 100% every time. I tired a XP (32 bit) machine same issue, I upgraded the XP machine to a fresh install of Win 7 32 bit, same issue could see the COM ports but they were allway busy when i tried to use QPST. Installed these drivers http://www.softpedia.c Last edited by LILLYS_CLOSET; 01-11-2013 at 04:51 AM.. |

Took me 3 months to get around to doing this, but sideloading Talkatone worked perfectly. Got the apk from here: http://www.talkatone.c I was expecting to have to also download an apk installer, or at least have to ensure some drama with a file explorer to find the apk once it was on the Venture waiting to be installed, but I accidentally came across a very simple solution. I had originally downloaded the apk at work and stuffed it into a Dropbox folder - the Venture already had the Dropbox app so it synched up and was waiting on me when I got home. I just opened Dropbox and tapped the file - it installed itself. Yes, even with Talkatone there is still a noticable voice delay - about 500-700 ms - but it's certainly workable and better than Groove IP was creating. With a faster processer I expect the Venture would do better as a VOIP phone, but $20 for a go-anywhere GPS (Navfree is great, and the maps are just as free as the app), and a free if-you-have-Wifi phone, it can't be beat.
