And is this better than building your own Mini-ITX server with the recent mini-ITX motherboard/CPU combo slickdeals (like BIOSTAR A68I-350, MSI A55M-P33, MSI E350IS-E45, etc)? |

wow.. I am still holding out for the 412+ model, it can transcode, and is 4 - bays, and is USB3.0.
I would live without the transcoding part with this model, but the 2 bays would make me wanna upgrade in another year I bet. Not a bad price. the 412+ on newegg was as low as $577.99 (usually about 650 everywhere)... when it hits that price again I will jump in. 412+ is the last model left that will transcode with apps like plex. As I gather, you only need to transcode if streaming to devices that don't play that kind of file format/codec by default, like iOS devices. I mainly would be watching thru my WD TV Live player at home, which I guess should work via DNLA with any of NAS, or with just a regular network share from the NAS. This is still a pretty good deal if you don't have alot of media though. |
