i know, but it isnt working well for me... only whn i connect the optical audio in cable, it works.. tried multiple cables/ports... i am surprised too...

No one should wait for ATV 4 for a few reasons:

1. Apple TV doesn't renew annually like iPad and iPhone.
2. It is unlikely that a new ATV will be jailbreakable quickly since ATV3 is not
3. ATV chip is powerful enough to stream what's out there (1080p, surround sound, etc). Whatever is not available now is locked for proprietary reasons.
4. Apple might hold off making new versions of ATV for the rumored full-fledged TV

It also depends on the type of HDMI cable you have and if your HT supports audio over HDMI. If they do, then check your HT settings.

why? they are jailbreakable? what do you get with jailbreak on these?

here iswhat i m trying to achieve: play music wirelessly on my hometheater system... now i know atv does that, but looking at audio ports , i will have to hook my appletv to HT through optical audio cable.. now if i do that i wont be able to play audiio for the movies i watch on tv...as it is also connected through optical cable... there is only one optical audio in in HT... lookedin to optical splitter, but dont want to get it as it is manual...
all i want to do i when i wakeup, i can play music from my bed appreciate any help... rest all features are not really needed, except streaming photos seldom...

ability to play real video files vs what Apple makes you.
Seriously limited. Your friends and neighbors will laugh at you for having one of these newbie media systems.

If all you want to do is stream music, why not get something like an Airport Express or bluetooth module and pair it with your phone or whatever you play music from?

thought about it, almost pulled a trigger on airport express, but it will have to be connected directly to sound system, which is a current prob.. i dont want to loose TV audio from movies.. plus i dont know compatibility between airport express and my sound system..

If only there were a place to find those answers. You could probably call it something like Google and tell people to Google it. I'm going to be rich if this idea pans out.
