Recently purchased the apple TV 3 and so far I'm really disappointed with the experience.

Plug it in, it says to update, so I update, then I found out the latest firmware was buggy as heck. It had issues with, of all things, wired ethernet.

Apple took 2 months to address the issues and finally a few days ago came out with the latest software with fixes for the wired ethernet issue. Wahooo. Try to upgrade and I get upgrade failed 6 times then gave up. Googling on the newest software it seems a lot of folks still have issues with it so it may be for the best.

My only other apple hardware is my iphone and for the most part that has just worked. I'm very disappointed with my ATV3 experience at this point. My Roku would crash once in a great while and the Hulu app is bonkers but even with those issues I'd put the Roku ahead of the ATV3 for customer satisfaction.

BTW if you don't have cable and buy a lot of content it pays to have both the roku and ATV. Or just a PC that does both itunes and amazon. That way you can shop both content providers for shows. Amazon mostly does better on movies, and has some sales on TV series but day to day iTunes beats amazon with (mostly) cheaper prices on current series, especially if you are OK with SD.

so, option 1: buy apple tv, connect it to HT through HDMI/optical cable... connect TV and HT via optical cable/HDMI...

option2: buy airport express, connect it to HT via 1/8" to rca cable and route your music... need to double check if HT will recognize this audio and if so how....

price difference is nothing...
feature difference: one has wireless printing, other has pics/videos streaming thru idevices...

You just wrote a commercial for AppleTV! Yeah, I'd check cable - do you have a blu ray or other device that you could test port with? gently jiggle cable and see if you get signal, or try reversing cable. Good luck and then buy an Apple TV.

I hook the pc connector to my laptop's HDMI port & the receiver's to TV's HDMI port. I used to be able to watch wirelessly on my 40 inch tv from my laptop, but recently it stopped working. I have another brand new HP wireless TV connector kit and I tried with that too but the TV still says PC ADAPTER CONNECTED, CHECK VIDEO SOURCE.

So I am sure the problem is not with the wireless connector kit.

do you think the HDMI on my TV is now defective or burnt or something? there are about 4 HDMI port on back of my TV and I tried all four but still NO PICTURE ON TV.

This saved me lots of blank dvds.
