The tipping debate
To get the discussion started, here are a few select comments from the other thread:
Quote from kuponi22 :Still debating tipping?
In America delivery drivers work for tips. They use their own car and gas. They get about 87 cents(from delivery fee) for every delivery. They are paid 4.25$/h while delivering. Tip is there to cover car expenses and part of the wage. In some other countries drivers are using company car and gas and are paid full wage so they do not work for tips.
I understand that some people may not like the system but that is the system nonetheless.
Bottom line if you order delivery you SHOULD tip.
Knowing all the facts you should realize that it is unwritten rule to tip.
It is a question of decency.
If you do not want to be a decent person you DO NOT have to tip.
If you are a decent person but still don't want to spend money on delivery, go and pick-up your order, or if you are mad at the system make your own pizza. You can also go into politics and try to eliminate tipping system.
Choice is yours........
Quote from Trakannon :And if everybody stopped tipping, they'd be paid correctly by their bosses.
Like I said, look at Blackjack dealers as an example. They WERE paid 100% wages from their employers. But people started tipping and bosses noticed. Guess what happened? Now 25% of their pay is cut because of tips. The boss man wants their employees to make X amount of money while representing the company, and tipping screws up the system.
Don't tip, let drivers get a base pay.
How retarded is it to pay someone $2-3 an hour, and then guilt customers into coughing up extra? I mean really? The rest of the world doesn't do it... so stop thinking it is the norm. If everybody stopped tipping, this would be solved within a week.
