The important thing with Li-Ion is, if they're not protected cells, you don't let them drain under 3.5 or so. You'll often notice a big drop off in light output when they drop below a respectable level. But the out put should be significantly more than with a AA. I suspect these use a boost converter to take a AA's 1.5v to the needed 3.5v for the CREE. This explains some of the horrible battery life. I've bought ones from ebay, that look exactly the same. I can tell you they are pretty darn good for the price. They're brighter than most of my other flashlights, for much cheaper. I bought a bunch to keep in the cars and a few around the house. I've taken them hiking and camping and they've worked well. I use some sanyo eneloops for them and they work great.

Awesome flashlight. I bulk ordered a bunch and gave them out to a bunch of my friends. They're small and for regular users, can take AA batteries, but for flashlight nutjobs like myself, the 14500's are indeed compatible, and as usual in cheaper flashlights (and still the expensive ones..) heats up considerably.
The beam is really good, and I love how it can be zoomed in/out. People around you might get angry though if you flash it in their general direction at night

I have order one back in October for $5.40. I ordered it from BestDeal777. Took about a 2 weeks to get here. |

I find a DRASTIC difference between single emmiter lights and multi-LED lights. The former throws out a beam, the latter glows. I beat Selma to the punch, TWICE!
