I recently switched from an ING Orange Savings account to an Ally money market account. Interest rate is slightly higher (I think 0.95% right now) and I get debit access and free checks. If you don't need that, their regular online savings gives you the same interest rate.

There are a tonne of better ways to invest your money. Apart from the usual array of options, I recommend looking at http://www.lendingclub.com [lendingclub.com]. Its lower risk than the volatile stock market and has great potential. You've worked hard for this money. Now its time to make it work for you! |

Amex rates have been going up and down for some time. I pulled my money out when they dropped to .80% - I didn't close the account though and they're back up to .95% I think. They're customer service is awesome. I moved my money to CIT which was 1.05% but just found out they dropped to 1.00%. I also left ING for AMEX. It's crazy trying to follow the money. CIT has good customer service, but they're not open on weekends and from 8-5ET (or times close to that). It's nuts how the rates fluctuate and they never bother to tell you. You just find out when you check your balance or get a statement. CIT doesn't provide paper statements which is a drag since my husband refuses to learn how to use a computer - his iPhone is as far as he'll go. ![]() AMEX provides paper statements if you want (the option of paperless is there though). Watch out for how a savings account handles beneficiaries. I know none of us think anything will ever happen but you just never know (like the school shooting). I left my account at ING open, they went up to .85% I think and now are down to .75%. ING compounds your interest monthly, not daily if that matters to you. Not sure where I'm going now - if anywhere. CIT at 1.00% isn't bad, just crappy customer service hours. Sallie Mae is at 1.05% but I'm tired of changing. Not sure what I'll do. Check BankRate for lots of rate info, including mortgages, cds, IRAs, etc. LINK [bankrate.com] I personally like HustlerMoney [hustlermoneyblog.com] . They even give you the best CB sites - lots of good info, best CC deals and tons of other stuff. Check out how to avoid the fees associated with AMEX gift cards on the site. LINK [hustlermoneyblog.com] I was going to put the AMEX deal it in Hot Deals, but have been too tired to take the time. Good luck whatever you decide to do and remember to keep an eye on the fluctuations. Last edited by JennyQ; 12-15-2012 at 10:25 PM.. |

bankrate.com [bankrate.com]
bankingmyway.com [bankingmyway.com] both of these sites keep track of all banks' interest rates and you can search and compare current rates. Also check local credit unions or CD's if you don't need immediate access to the money. |
