DON'T DO IT!!!
I tried it last year. The going rate here in NY was about 6 or 7 cents per kWH at that time. I switched to Energy Plus for the promo and their rate turned out to be 23 or 25 cents per kWH. ![]() Even though there is no commitment or cancellation charge, you need two months to get the bonus, then maybe another month to cancel... you would have paid more to E+ in that time than the miles are worth. |

No, I am saying the rate tripled in the FIRST month. This is a market rate, they can pretty much charge whatever they want. That is why there is no commitment.
If you want to PayPal me $10 for my time, I will dig out the old statements and pdf them to you. |

i live in NJ and used PSE&G before switching to Energy Plus. My first two months (Sept and Oct.) the rate for Energy Plus was slightly lower than PSE&G. My bill still comes from PSE&G and it shows the comparison of Energy Plus vs. PSE&G, so I'm pretty sure I'm not overpaying. At least not yet.
I just received 7.5K miles last week, and expect 2.5K more in a month, so yes, it takes forever for the miles to be in your account. I remain skeptical because of what I've read, but so far I haven't been screwed. Hoping that the rate isn't jacked for one month so I can get the bonus and then I might just switch back to PSE&G to avoid any potential hassle |

Okay, I dugged out my old statements so you are getting the exact picture, not some fuzzy numbers from my memory:
This is NYC area serviced by ConEd June 2011 ConEd 6.2 cents/kWH July 2011 ConEd 7.7 cents/kWH Aug 2011 ConEd 8.1 cents/kWH Sept 2011 ConEd 8.1 cents/kWH Oct 2011 ConEd 5.7 cents/kWH Nov 2011 Energy Plus 14.875 cents/kWH <--- switched to Energy+ Dec 2011 Energy Plus 21.875 cents/kWH Jan 2012 Energy Plus 21.875 cents/kWH Feb 2012 Another Supplier 6.0 cents/kWH <--- fastest I could switch out!!!!! Note the big jump after the first month. If you live in anything more than a bachelor's apt, you will probably pay more than the miles are worth in the 3 months you are billing to them. Some posters have said their rate was only a little higher, so maybe they stopped the gouging in the past few months, but I got SCREWED!!!! And since it is a 'market' rate, they are free to screw again anytime they please! Last edited by Woz2000; 12-05-2012 at 03:04 PM.. |
