Has anyone been able to use the LOYALTEA code in the store? Did you have to show anything?

Free shipping for all orders is over unfortunately.
LOYALTEA still works, but as mike808 said, it's not as sweet of a deal with $50 minimum free ship. LOYALTEA is the same code they would ring up at the store, but I'm not sure if you would need to present a physical coupon. |

I would recommend the in-store experience once, just to smell the teas and try a few things. However, they have crazy high-pressure sales tactics, and I honestly hate going in there. It is really awful, and almost impossible to get the employees to just sell you what you want without getting into a 20 minute argument about why you don't need a half dozen things that you already have. I love the MateVana product though and now that I can get it online with a coupon code, thats a win-win for me. I'm concerned about the pesticide thing. We are an all organic family and this tea is one of the very few exceptions. I didn't think it was a big deal, but it sounds like it might be a bigger deal than I thought. |

I worked at Teavana for a year quite a while back. It was the worst job I've ever had and I quit shopping there as a result. I was never comfortable with the sales tactics. You spend a month taking tests and reading a huge book that teaches you things like the "5 no's" before you're even allowed to talk to a customer. If I tried to talk you into a $300 cast iron teapot and you said no, then I had to come up with 4 other ways to try to talk you into it before giving up and moving down to something smaller in price. When weighing out tea for people we were told to always pull too much stock at first. If you ask for 8 oz of Darjeeling, we were supposed to make sure to pour more, say 8.4 oz and then say "oh that's 8.4 oz, that's ok, right?" and we would actually get in trouble if the manager didn't see us doing this on every sale. There were so many times that I felt really good about a small sale just because the customer left happy and I was actually able to help and educate them a little, only to be reprimanded once they left because I didn't "top-sell-down" or push 30 different add-ons at them. The only plus of the job is for every $200 of tea you sell, you'd get 2oz of any tea at the end of the shift. On a good day, you could sell between $800-$1000. I was taking home a pound of tea a night during the holiday season. TL;DR: Teavana is a company that employs unethical sales tactics and I, for one, refuse to support them. |

Having been in sales for quite some time, commission only-mind you, I have no issue with them trying to sell me something. To date, they have not sold me anything. What did work were the free samples. For the past two years I've only bought two types of teas (both blends, so I guess 4 types). Both types were demo'd. It's really not that bad. Just say no and become very interested in whatever it is you're looking at. Not hard. |

Selling is annoying, yes, but it's the shady stuff I've seen that has led to me switching companies (that and education/exposure to real tea sellers and not the shiny ones in the mall.) Overloading scales, refusing refunds, employee horror stories. Overpricing everything. Why give money to skeezy companies when very awesome companies like Rishi exist? Teavana is to tea as Starbucks is to Coffee. Nice lighting, appeals to the average uninformed person. But real tea/coffee people wouldn't give them a dollar for their product.
