Championship Match: Best 3 out of 5: TGT (#2 seed) vs SST6 (#1 seed)
Round 1: SST6 wins the toss and chooses Nuketown. TGT chooses Hardpoint
TGT jumped out to an early lead and SST6 battled back within 2 points only to have TGT buckle down and extend the lead to 66-26 with 7 minutes left to play. This would turn out to be the recurring theme of the round as TGT held the lead the entire round and SST6 on two separate occasions would battle back to within two measly points only to have TGT surge forward and extend the lead again. Final Score: 192-170 TGT
Round 2: TGT chooses Hijacked and SST6 chooses Hardpoint
This time it was SST6 who jumped out to an early lead with a score of 27-0 but TGT locked down the next hardpoint and served up 33 unanswered points of their own making the score 33-27. From this point forward, however, TGT maintained nearly absolute control and at the half led with a score of 131-81. TGT overpowered SST6 the remainder of the match and won the round with a final score of 250-142.
Round 3: SST6 chose TDM and TGT chose Yemen
TGT took an early lead of about 2-3 kills and maintained this marginal lead throughout the first 8 minutes and 44 seconds of the round. But with one minute and fifteen seconds left to play SST6 took its first lead of the entire round and the score was now 43-42. Both teams traded kills and with 30 seconds left it was all tied up at 46-46. SST6 scored the first kill to break the tie but TGT answered right back to make the score 48-47 in their favor. SST6 ties it up with seconds left on the clock but Youniversal and Entropic poach the final two kills, closing out the round, set and match. Final score 50-48.
TGT upsets the top seed and is crowned the SD BLOPS2 Tournament Champs.
Great match guys and congrats to TGT!
A few personal notes:
I enjoyed this final but somehow the intensity levels weren't where they were a few weeks back. I attribute a part of that to the long break before the finals, which is why I always try and push for a well paced tournament.
In any event, SST6 was the top seed as they dominated throughout the tournament (even being the ones to send TGT to the loser's bracket in the first place) but there's no doubt TGT was the better team this match as they employed some great teamwork and sound tactics, especially in the hardpoint rounds. TGT appeared to be better coordinated and was always on the move to the next hardpoint well ahead of SST6. This played a pretty big factor.
I can't help but wonder what would've happened had Buck not subbed in for KeK Assassin. When SST6 defeated TGT earlier in the tournament, Kek was on that team and SST6 won by the skin of their teeth. Buck and Kek have similar shooting skills (as their matchplay k/d's will attest to) but Buck might be the better tactician and that certainly played a factor.
On the flip side, SST6 is a team that has played together for a decent chunk of time even before the tournament. They know each other well as they've logged a lot of time together and they jive pretty well too. Not to mention, each and every member is quite skilled, with thsweetness being downright beastly.
So I guess that stuff kinda cancels each other out. haha.
Either way, it was a great match and TGT came back from the brink of elimination to win it all so congratulations to them.
To the rest of ya's.....thanks for playing and helping me keep things running smoothly. Hope you guys had a good time.
Good stuff guys! Great matches in the finals and thanks again TGT for scooping me up to fill in. I was worried if I'd be able to hang with you big dogs, but I feel a lot better now.
Thanks for the awesome write-up Roland, and for the props! I am totally okay with being a tactician. You are THE MAN when it comes to running these tourneys Amigo and I for one appreciate not only your hard work but your passion for gaming dude!
See you on Far Cry 3 or GOW Judgement some time...!!
Lots of fun playing with you guys, and thanks again for putting the whole thing together, Roland.
Also, I hate how bad blops2 is about cross-country connections. I don't remember it being nearly this bad in the first blops, and definitely not mw2. Either way, I think I gave a lot of kills away when I watched your killcam and i'm just straight up running at you, then you start firing, and i'm still running, while i'm ads and shooting on my screen. oh well.
Not sure about gears yet. I want to get it but always seem to go back to whatever modern warfare game is out. crysis was great and I got a lot out of it but don't touch it anymore. considering one of my best friends from high school is a lead programmer on gears I feel I should get it though!
speaking of which, isnt the new one usually announced by now?
Nothing since the rumored leaks from November and a beta scam site last month lol. it should be soon though. I wonder if they are waiting for a console time launch. that would be great for sales. this would suggest that they would not announce until after durango is announced
