They sounds more like forensic markers. They are really just unique points in the DNA with known variations.

I would not expect you to find any diagnostic value out of this, at all. Unless in the future one of the loci are found to be associated with disease, but I doubt it.

23andme can give you interesting and useful information, this cannot. The information it provides is quite useless.

As long as it gives you which markers you have, you can look it yourself. The information is publicly available. 23andme just wraps it up into a nice summary.

I got the last Living Social deal for my parents and myself. It's not what I was hoping. It shows no risk for anything health related. Also if you read the website they're quite honest about what this "experiment" is about. Saying that you can buy a fun tshirt to show your personal genome.

Depending on how many people submit their DNA - it will just match u to the people closest. So when I've logged in I've been matched from anywhere from Vietnam to China to Sweden to ... you name it. Btw- I do not have any of these countries prominently in my bloodline. It just depends on who is submitting their DNA and who they can compare yours to.

It's not what I was hoping for - which was to find out the bloodline history, genetics, susceptibility to disease, etc. Hope that helps anyone considering this one.

Haha, this deal came up again and I was regretting my 23andME purchase, but I guess I'll hold off.

I like to let others discover my DNA all over their sheets. This should work right?

I got my parents the 23andme test a few years back and have enjoyed trying to match up family trees with 'relatives'. I just purchased my wife the $99 special from 23andme, so she will be sending that out soon. I'm not interested in the medical predictors as those are not refined enough for me to take stock in them. I'm really interested in the genealogy aspect. I personally see the test above as more of a novelty item...a semi-cheap way to compare your DNA with others around the world, without all the details that make it a useful tool, whether it be for medical or genealogy reasons.
