Ok, Special Edition means it comes with a good resolution, an aluminum insert for the top panel, and discrete graphics.

In other news, a chat rep tells me you can replace that capacious spinning drive with an SSD and the mSATA SSD that's already installed will not interfere. Caching, according to the rep, can be disabled in BIOS.

looks like a really solid laptop. i think coupon expires 12/6 today though.
Also, I refuse to buy another intel / AMD switchable graphics card. they are a pain. i googled this card real fast "7730M switchable" as search parameters and it seems this one has same issues as any of the others... mainly not being able to set which card to use in bios and it switching back and forth in the middle of a game or app on its own.

i did check the leshcat drivers website, 3rd party drivers created to address problems for AMD dedicated / Intel integrated systems, and there are some users w/ 7730M's there trying to fix their issues.

I am looking for quality. Have tried Dell before that went down on me with power socket failure and battery failure. Next was, MSI, with same power socket failure and Battery (worse than dell). I had a toshiba long time ago and that worked like a charm for 4+yrs until the monitor hinges got so loose.

Good laptop with excellent screen and solid gaming performance. The 7730m is the based of the newest enduro series GPUs hence switching is a little better than old GPUs as it does it automatically like Nvidia Optimus though not as polished.

I disagree about Asus laptop quality. I got a u33jc system a bit over a year ago, first two had hinge/monitor issues out of the box. Third one works ok. Perhaps I got an extremely unlikely sample? I've sworn by their desktop mobo's for years and never had a single problem, so I was very surprised about the laptop issues. FWIW B&H was fantastic with returns and even got me money back when the price dropped.
