Yeah, this, like most every other receiver, has AM/FM tuner.

don't think it comes with speaker wire, you have to buy it, and hmdi cable if you want. amp is in the receiver.bounce
Thanks Ben for info...I need your advice again..
I bought new home recently and just moved in and guy who put inwall speakers, saying he will give me amp...If i dont need amp what i gonna do with amp....and I already paid him for amp , he will not return amp money..

Does putting external amp alongwith receiver's in built amp make sound better?

Thanks again for help...This is first time i am doing home theater...so dont know much..

I'm in need of an entire home theater system, and the 25% off onkyo referbs seems like it's a pretty good deal.

I was thinking of getting the HT-S7409 setup. The reciever seems pretty good and the reviews around the internet seem good.

Anyone have any thoughts on it? Also, it says that refubs don't come with any cords....what will I need to buy to get this up and running?

Thanks
I just got this package last week for $395 shipped with a 30% refurb deal. I didn't open it yet, as it's an xmas gift for family, but it 'should' have all wires. I think the kits 'may' be missing parts, but reviews I've read so far claimed all parts were there. The TX-NR609 is decent, certainly better quality than the current 616 everyone is complaining about. It's a step down from my Integra DTR-9.1 but it has HDMI : )

Awesome. I'll pick up some speaker wire just incase....I was most worried about the input cord from the sub.

Is this better than the 309? Does it have the same heating issues? Debating returning my other refurb Onkyo order (haven't opened it yet).
Without comparing specs, I'd hazard a guess the 309 is nicer. The units that do not start with TX-NRxxx (or TX-SRxxx) are typically special built for HTIB packages and made a bit cheaper. They typically have smaller transformers and therefore a bit less oomph in their output. Check the 8ohm power output on each, and the THD figures and compare. That being said 'any' name brand receiver with 50-100w per channel is going to sound decent to 99% of the consumers out there with 99% of the movie program material. Music may be a different story, and those with golden ears will sneer at lower end stuff(I think it all sounds fine). My current older 600 series Onkyo does just as good a job as my defunct $3k Integra DTR-9.1 (11yrs old) which as 2x the wattage and almost half the THD. So I can't hit THX reference levels, no big, it still sounds good. I have by no means a stellar system, but anyone who's watched a movie in my house has been impressed.

monoprice, tons of RCA cables for cheap. I got a stereo L/R pair 25 feet long for a few dollars to split for 2 subs in my living room, I ran them under the floor in the basement, and they will go into wall outlets. I'm only using 1 sub now, but planning for upgrades or wishful thinking ; )

sell it on CL or put some speakers in other rooms and do some multi-room audio. Lot's of these receivers nowadays have zone 2 and even zone 3 out, so you can have some background music in another den/kitchen/basement room or whatever. Depending on what receiver you get, some have multichannel outputs so you could run the external amp. Depends on how nice it is on whether it's worth the effort. The big problem is, the HTRC330 has no line level outputs other than sub, so you'd need to go up a few models on the food chain. The HTRC360 and the TX-SR414 have a zone 2 out, so models above that 'should' as well. But you'll need to go a bit higher to get all 5 or 7 channels line outputs to use that amp.

I just added a little Club Onkyo info to the Wiki.

If you own any Onkyo stuff, don't forget to register it. I bought my receiver just over a year ago and I was still able to register it for an easy $5 off. I couldn't seem to figure out how to write a review, but if you can, it's another $5 off. I think you can do it with a max of 5 products per year. Still, not too shabby

This appears not to have Audyssey, which I think will be a deal-breaker for me ...
