Illinois Lawmaker Running For Congress Out On Bond After Gun Charge
Why would a politician advocating for gun control, and voting against allowing concealed carry for ordinary citizens, themselves possess an illegal unregistered weapon, along with a special carry permit, and illegally try to take it on an airline flight? Does this sound like a politician for the people? Or someone who feels they're better than their constituents, and deserving of special benefits? “Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.”

Some probably think a politician advocating for more gun control, and voting against concealed carry for citizens, while holding a special permit to carry themselves, is just fine. Perhaps they also approved of the party officials in the old Soviet Union getting the special privileges they got, that the average citizen couldn't. The anti gay congressman angle has been covered here innumerable times. Heck, someone even brought it up in this thread. |

Have there been similar cases of Republicans advocating for more gun control, and voting against concealed carry for citizens, while carrying guns themselves? If so, let me know, so I can add their name to the list of hypocritical anti gun politicians. Last edited by Elmer; 12-07-2012 at 07:05 PM.. |

1. I have a gun and no one else has it 2. no one has a gun 3. we all have guns 4. I do not have gun but all others have guns The above person would advocate a gun ban law but meanwhile would definitively buy a gun. You might disagree with the logic but you cannot call the above person a hypocrite. This reminds me of the equally illogical retort of "why don't you send extra money" said to people who advocate tax increases. But god forbid if you tell a person who advocates abolishing of SS to not claim their payments. All of a sudden there are a million justifications for this supposed "hypocrisy." |

Logic: If you are for or against X, act as if X was there or was abolished. If you are for increased taxes, send extra money. If you are against SS, don't accept yours. For a non-partisan, the above two logic are the same. But for a partisan one is logical while the other is not, depending on where their politics is. |

If the politician was voting for a gun ban then he would be a hypocrite. |

Here, they are again: 1. I have a gun and no one else has it 2. no one has a gun 3. we all have guns 4. I do not have gun but all others have guns Please show the element of hypocrisy for a politician with above preferences who is advocating for a gun ban but meanwhile owns a gun. Thanks. |

Meanwhile people who think SS is immoral because people receive more than they put in and that they are stealing from their children can still receive the proceeds and not be considered hypocrites. Simply astonishing. A politician whose preference is as I listed and votes to ban guns and also owns a gun is acting EXACTLY as his preferences are. I do not see an ounce of hypocrisy. Nobody is stupid enough to go with his least desired preference while advocating for a higher preference and while his highest preference is perfectly legal at the time. |
