I have been eating this way for about a year, love Dr F

Just eating right and getting healthier. What I thought was eating right was clearly not after reading his book.

I HIGHLY recommend Disease Proof Your Child too if you have children. If you don't you can still learn a lot, particularly about how you grew up eating affects yourself today.

I got both of the books as well. Now, I am in my size 34 jeans that my wife kept in the closet the last 20 years and I was growing out of size 42 ones just six months ago What happened to the size 42 jeans? She said I ain't keeping these and donated some and sold off the rest on ebay saying "My hubbies loss is your gain"

Joined his member center and there are TONS of recipes, active forums, and tons of education.

Not sure how much weight it carries with people but he was on Dr. Oz again this week. Supposedly they don't let him talk too much cuz the big-med/pharma sponsors get upset at what he's teaching (that diet leads to health, not meds and surgery by and large).

Yes. The day I decided to change my fast food diet with a vegan one, I weighed 258 lbs on a 6'-0" frame. Now I am 186 lbs. I didn't heavily exercise - just lift dumbbells for 20 mins every other day (which I used to do even before the change) and picked up cycling. recently.

Thanks for the heads up. If 95% of people diagnosed with the disease have type 2, and the leading cause is obesity, most of the material may have been covered in other books, and this may simply have more of the latest research to back him up.

The End of Diabetes pre-order is one for $17.81, while Eat to Live is four for $17.97, so I can give more of it out.

It was challenging to find a reputable person to recommend. I spent most of the year searching and once I found Dr. Fuhrman a few weeks ago, spent hours watching and reading materials to confirm his reputation.

I had it in my cart the last few days and was waiting to see if it drops so I can get 4 and ended up getting 8 (for now). It is a great holiday or "just because" gift.

I eat fruits and salads daily but did not know why I was hungry. Turns out 1lb of salad only contains 50 calories, so I need more of it. Also, he recommends eating fatty fruits and nuts because this is the good fat, while avoiding oil including olive oil. (If trying to lose weight, simply eat less of fatty fruits/nuts and more of the high in ANDI. Your stomach is full from the other stuff, but is losing weight instead of maintaining weight.)

I thought because they contain little to no animal ingredients, vegetarian or vegan products are safe to buy, and it turns out that any processed food is bad, because the process burns out most of the original nutrients.

That doesn't mean you should not cook. Many healthy types go for raw, but he shows studies that say you should cook as well, because it is easier for the body to process foods when soft.

Many great points and I figured it was easier to simply buy the books instead of typing key points and emailing friends and family.

Having both which one would you recommend?

Disease Proof Your Child [amazon.com] came out in 2006, and I read that Eat to Live (revised) contains material from previous books, plus latest research, so I went with that. It is also cheap enough to give out for no reason.

Yes, watch this movie [hulu.com] and read why diets fail [peertrainer.com]. The video mentions ~ $15/day cost of produce the first 60 days, but that is because the truck driver he met tried to go from 430 pounds to low 200 (from what I recall). That kept him on the same strict shopping regardless of cost.

If you do not need to be strict ANDI list is long so you go for what is cheaper, on sale, in season, etc and can cost $2-5/day, which is cheaper than what I used to pay for food.

Thanks for the tip. I have at least one person in mind that needs such hand-holding.

Dr. Fuhrman wants the body to be strong enough to prevent and fight off illnesses, by eating healthy. This goes against the tens of thousands of lobbyists for the various industries, and the "research" they subsidize that is just meant to support them or at a minimum confuse us. Buy what is good for your body, not their pocketbooks.
