The bundled Asus m5a97 motherboard has some uneven reviews at Newegg [newegg.com].
Microcenter in-store has the same bundle for $255 + tax. |

Looked up the reviews and the processors looks disappointing. I rather have better 4 core i5 than mediocre 8 core amd. Except for a select few task, this processor is significantly slower than i5s.

I have the FX 6100 and rev 1 of this board; they work really well together and I love my current setup. the FX 8350 will run really well and do anything from gaming to video encoding. at this price you can't really go wrong.~200$ for both cpu and board! also 4eggs on new egg; and most of the bad reviews are from DOA -- speaking of which can sites have a new rating specifically for DOA? giving one egg for a product that was defective to start with is really not helpful! |

as big of am AMD fan as I am, no point in buying 200 dollar price range cpu's from them. AMD these days are only worth buying at the 100 price range...

Anyone would recommend this +$10 ship over a 3 hours drive To MC to get the i5 3570k and equivalent mobo for $270 ?

performance they're both very close despite intel fanboys will say the i5 is "way better" depends on what you're gonna use it for, gaming wise the i5 is better, for adobe works and stuffs the 8350 will make more sense. I'm happy with either one, but the i5 does draw a lot less power than the 8350, and I'm probably not gonna use a graphic card so the i5 worked out better. another thing consider is this is the last run of the 1155 socket so if you want to upgrade your CPU down the road you'd want AMD "if it's meant to be, it will be..."

Even the i3 can kick the FX cpu's over on some games and benchmarks. The whole series was a complete swing and a miss. I'd buy one of these if it was near $100. Definitely not for over $200. |

I love AMD, I've supported them through out the years, but I am a recent convert to Intel and the i5 blows anything AMD can throw at them. Load times are faster, games are faster, my vid card performs a hell of a lot better and I'm getting more FPS.
AMD has a very strong and powerful Vid card line, but their processors are lagging behind. The only thing that's going for them is they're not constantly changing socket sets. My AM3 and AM3+ boards have sustained many years of use. But there's no way I'm paying $200 for an inferior processor, when I can go to Micro Center and get an i5 for less and more performance. I hope Pile Driver will deliver or Earth Mover, or whatever that next gen cpu is called, I forget. |
