I used the N1 for over a year, and then gave it to my mother when i got my GNex. 3 weeks ago it appears the phone overheated and while wifi still works, it cannot recognize a SIM card.
Looking to get her a replacement and highly considering the Exhibit from HSN, though I think its up to $150 now. Anyone that has it, have you tried installing FoxFi hotspot app? |

The Lumia 710 is a terrific smartphone. While it will not be upgraded to 8 you still have access to well over 100,000 apps that will continue to run just fine. If you want a simple phone to mainly do phone things then the 710 is an excellent choice. Android on substandard hardware blows. You also will not have an easy upgrade path unless you root and load up custom ROM's (most Android phones get maybe 1 major release update provided by the carrier). Given that you are looking for a basic smartphone rooting/custom ROM's probably isn't the way you would go. Both platforms have their place. Personally, I would have stayed with WP but I'm on a pre-paid plan and for $300 the N4 was just far superior to anything that I could get hardware wise from WP. Had I been able to score an unlocked 920 or 8X for about the same price I would have taken that over an N4. If you check CL you can pick up a used WP7 device for $100 all day long. For those on a budget I strongly recommend the 710/800/900. All very solid devices. I like my old Focus S but prefer the Lumia's due to the Nokia specific apps. ******************* As for this deal - avoid the Nexus One. For the price there are far better options. It was a very solid phone 3 years ago. Now ... it's ready for the trash heap. Last edited by bjsguess; 02-13-2013 at 10:05 AM.. |

Probably the best phone I had when I bought it new for $529 when it came out. I kept it for 22 months. Longest I've ever held on to one phone as my primary. Awesome build quality with the exception of the powerbutton issue that can't be fixed so becareful. There's workaround for it, but its still a problem.
But these days, the N1 is slow and very outdated. I wouldnt recommend it unless you're getting it real cheap. Like $50 cheap. |

Sorry, but Microsoft screwed the WP7 users. WP8 seems promising, but I like my google services. No Gmail app, no google map app, no street level view (Bing street level coverage sucks), no youtube app. Yeah, there are third party apps for these services, they they're half-arse. |
