Yeah I don't see the point in paying 1/6 the retail price just for a warranty. What are the steps you guys are going to go through to see whether or not the product is defective?

Wow, I was one of hte first people to order and some people got there's the next day? Ouch lol. Mine barely shipped yesterday.

Been using mine for a couple days now, starting to notice a couple keys that intermittently won't work. (d, del, bksp) tried in both win7 and win8. Looks like it's going back for a replacement.

Also, FYI, your windows 7 key is on the power brick.

Just received mine in the mail today. I bought one from BBY (open item) for $830 after tax thinking it was a good deal down from $900, but then I saw this.

Bought this and returning the one from BBY. I'm getting random bsods and shutdowns with it anyways.

This one comes with the DisplayPort to VGA adapter, USB to Ethernet inside a small ASUS carrying bag. For me, the re-certified one is in better shape than the one I got from BBY... it has a scuff on the hinge, and the metal on the edge has a pry mark, but is perfect otherwise. No wear on kb/trackpad. Looks brand new without very close inspection.

Only issue with this laptop I've had is the trackpad drivers that are pre-installed. If they are giving you a hard time I suggest looking for a certain Dell driver. After that, this machine is perfect for my on-the-go work. Didn't want to go back to a Mac so I got this. Love it.

Good luck on getting a replacement... Most people have just been getting money back because they are out of stock.


As for the person who commented on paying 1/10th for a 3 year warranty... I figure its a good deal seeing as its 3 years of coverage (about 20 a year). Also the ram is soldered to the board, so if the ram goes, you need a whole new board. The SSD is also proprietary, so its a much more expensive replacement than a normal ssd. Piece of mind for 3 years seems ok by me. Squaretrade also offers cancelations where you get back your pro-rated amount. So if after a year, you sell it, you get back around 40 bucks. When reselling, having a warranty is also something people look into, the squaretrade warranty transfers too, so if after that year, someone is on the fence about buying it, then you can advertise the warranty. Either way, at 60 for 3 years, I think its a deal... at any more, I don't think its as good as a deal, but for some, it may be worth the piece of mind.

Think about the laptop you bought 3 years ago...do you really care that much what happens to it?

It's not about what happens to the laptop after the three years. The point of the warranty is to have reassurance in case sometimes goes wrong within three years.

He brings up a good point though... Yes, near the end of the warranty, odds are I won't really care... Its more about what happens within a year or 2. If it was $60 for 2 years, I'd be happy still. @ $60 for 3 years, even better. Hell at $60 for one year, I would think it would be considerable.

Warranties are for some people, not so much others. I have used a 3 year warranty on a computer once (near the third year)... it was a mac.
