Did you update the bios to 212? (I think it was 212)

Only a few things I dislike.

- HDMI out not working on windows 8 (see here: http://communities.intel.com/thread/32674)
- Some backlight issues (most of the time though it doesn't matter)
- Speakers aren't that loud

I'm still debating on going back to windows 7 but not sure. I even bought a micro usb to hdmi cable but it wouldn't work with my tv. I'd install the driver and it'd work but if you restart right after it stops working.

Other than the HDMI issue, are all the other devices recognized or installed from the downloads available from ASUS? I don't really see the need to upgrade to W8 since the screen is not touch--I'll probably stay with W7 but would like to clean-install it if I can without too much trouble.

Has anyone purchased this sleeve [amazon.com] and have any comments on it? I'm considering that or the Case Logic sleeve [amazon.com]. I'm leaning towards the first one due to the fact that it has a side/end zipper (along the short edge of the laptop) which allows for pulling the laptop out of a backpack without removing the sleeve

For others' future reference, my UX31A has minimal/no backlight bleed, no keyboard problems, but did come with the SanDisk SSD.

I took the computer to my parents house for the holidays and I had no issues at all using the HDMI out on windows 8. I do have the newest bios (ones that came out a few days before christmas) so maybe that fixed it? Either way, just wanted to let fellow buyers know that hdmi out works or at least can work pretty well.

I'll try it...I think it's a video driver issue though since other people are having the same issue with the hd4000.

Correct. I am running 216 bios and the current drivers for HD4000 from intel (not the ones asus has on their page). The TV was a 720p not 1080p so maybe that was the difference? Also the cable was not exactly a cheap $1 cable from ebay, this was a good cable from a reputable company (not sure if that matters at all, but sometimes it makes a difference.

Has anyone snagged a case/sleeve for this yet? I'm kind of on the fence between wanting a form-fitting sleeve, or a more traditional case (with storage for power adapter, etc). Unfortunately, I'm not sure if any of them are specifically made for the Zenbook. I'd rather not have the laptop bouncing around in a too-big sleeve/case.

If anyone has one they can recommend (or not recommend), I'd appreciate it.

I got the official one from the ASUS store because 1) it's very portable and 2) looks great. Can't fit the power adapter or dongles, but I'm gonna look past that. I'm not sure when it comes to traditional cases, but figure any 13.3" one will do.

I ordered the "V7" sleeve from amazon [amazon.com] that the person above and some others have posted. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow but hasn't even shipped yet. I will report back when I get it (PM me if I forget to update).

On a side note, has anyone else noticed a very quite but very high pitched sound coming from the laptop? It is so quiet that I only hear it when there are no other sounds in the room and I have the computer close to my head/ears. For example when I'm reading from the laptop in bed. The interesting thing is that the sound briefly goes away when I two-finger scroll. Not sure why that is. Any thoughts, experiences or remedies? Thanks.

To update, the V7 sleeve has not been shipped and amazon says they "need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."
