As a fishing enthusiast I have to warn you guys that this seems to be a pretty bad product. An 8 foot long rod is used for surf fishing or fishing on a pier. This in addition to the fact that Zebco is not a very good brand name for fishing equipment. If you are interested to get into fishing I would suggest an Ugly Stik combo. There are ones that are just under or about 6 feet for ~$30. Ugly Stiks will withstand the beating and bending that a lot of beginners will probably put it through.
