Can't comment on GTX 680 ...but non-OC 7970 crossfire can easily reach ~500 watts alone. With a moderate OC and CPU OC, 7970 Crossfire can reach 800 watts system. There are bench of them reaching 900+ watts system with 1200/1600 OC. http://www.techpowerup.com/review...re/22.html http://www.tweaktown.com/articles...dex16.html https://www.google.com/search?q=7...=firefox-a Last edited by noobcake; 12-10-2012 at 10:56 AM.. |

Most of these tests are measured at full stress bench load from the wall. A 650W gold unit can easily pull 750W from the wall. Typical gaming power consumption will also be a lot lower. Legit reviews [legitreviews.com] average over 6 games was only 373 for a single AMD reference GHZ edition card. Hardware Canucks [hardwarecanucks.com] had similar numbers for load scenarios. If you're just gaming on stock or Ghz Edition cards, a 650W gold unit will handle it just fine. If you're going to be benching and pushing your clock speeds up to 1200/1600, you should probably be looking for a 750W unit. |

And NO, power supply do not pull more than their rated capacity. Some PSU do pull more and are have their wattage under-marketed for whatever reason. Besides, it is bad idea to utilize a PSU near 100% capacity. Finally, you link me to reviews clearing showing that a single 7970 system bulls 412/399/391 watts respectively and you are stilling me that you can run 7970 crossfire on 650 watts? |

Yes they do. Why do you think places like Hardwaresecrets run overload tests? Yes. Those are all total system draw measured at the wall. |

Don't be an idiot trying to make do with this PSU running dual 7970s. Know that it's your system that goes down when the PSU is overloaded or running at capacity constantly. Not us posters giving out our opinions. Don't take that chance.
