This is a great price for those that missed out on BF deal. If you're going to have an issue i'm betting it would be within the first few weeks of owning the camera, so you could potentially return it to the seller.
Personally i'm going to hold off. Nikonrumors indicated that the D800 may receive a price drop on the 15th, probably to $2999. I'm hoping this may put some more pressure on the 5D3 as i'd rather pay $100 more and buy from an Authorized seller such as Amazon/BH/Adorama.
Meant to say D800 is rumored to drop to $2799. This will have to put downward pressure on 5d3
im sure there are channels where a ton of gray market items can be had
Did you see that news report about a book publisher suing an ebay seller who's been profiting handsomely off books from other countries that cost pennies on the dollar elsewhere? The guy has made several million US Dollars doing so. Same logic applies here, I'm afraid.
pretty soon this camera will be for free. guess there is no demand for Canons anymore.
No, it's just these non-authorized sellers selling absurdly cheap because they can afford to. Market value for an authorized purchase is still around $3k. Not to mention that all of the authorized dealers have an instant rebate for $200 off each body through the end of the year.

Big Value was good to me when I got the $750 EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. If I didn't already have my (unwarrantied) 5DIII, I'd probably jump on this one. Sure, I'm playing with fire to save a couple hundred $$$, but I have yet to get burned...except, I guess, for a used 24-70 f/2.8L that has a hair inside of it and a somewhat rougher zoom ring...but if that's the worst of it, I feel pretty good so far. I got that one when I was just getting into high-grade photography and more-or-less deserved what I got for being such a hasty purchaser.
What happened, they not ship the item? I bought this same camera from them about a month ago and it took a couple days to ship. Item was brand new with a warranty card and valid SN.
The way you will get warranty service is that you send it back to them, then they go to the AD that sold it to them who then sends it to Canon. The easiest way is to go through Canon yourself too.
Speaker companies did the same "must be purchased from an AD for warranty" BS, but when the economy tanked, nobody would pay inflated prices, so the above "trick" is how the workaround evolved. Canon can track it through the SN.
Let me know if your experience differs from this.
Canon demanded a copy of the receipt when I sent a new body in for calibration. Good luck to you if you're stuck there trying to sell that bag of crap

You have the gear required to qualify for CPS gold for $100--one of the perks includes several yearly cleaning vouchers. They would get that hair out for free (aside from the shipping cost).
But crud gets inside--that's just how it is with any zoom lens.

No bold claim of a canon warranty--it seems they only put the warranty claim front and center for the higher-priced equipment. They're taking a calculated risk.
On another note, they used to put large, pretty "Canon Warranty" images in all of their listings, but apparently took them all down after they were reported. Now they have carefully worded warranty terms in all of their listings.
If so many are willing to jump ship on a manufacturer's warranty on this type of equipment, let me book a trip to Japan now and upon my return, set up a listing for you guys with a "great deal" on this camera that will make bigvalueinc look expensive
They took forever to ship, lied multiple times about when it would or did ship, did not actually ship until I opened up an eBay case, got the camera and it had no warranty card, auction clearly states includes warranty card, when I asked them, they got snippy and replied with canon website info for warranty.
Camera seems fine, but way too much hassle, and I would have thought twice about buying without even the warranty card.
