The bad reviews are due to things that have been fixed. People were upset with the ending, which Bioware fixed by providing DLC with an extended ending that resolved many of the problems people found with the original ending. Second, people were upset that there was so much DLC listed on day one of the release of the game, making EA seem very greedy since all that content could/should have been part of the main game. This was EA's fault but the DLC isn't necessary to play the game and you can get it at a discount now. The game itself is one of the best games of the year and the reviews don't reflect that due to the aforementioned reasons. Definitely worth the $15 price tag.

I highly recommend jumping on this EVEN IF you haven't started the series. Buy 1 and 2 used, and this new at this price because ME 3 has an activation code for multiplayer which makes buying new more worth it. 1 and 2 don't.

I did the same exact thing (used,used,new) last summer and played the whole series in a couple months. The first one is mind-blowingly good, gets you excited about the future, has cool environments, dialogue where you make hard choices (that you end up caring more about than the actual gameplay, that's a first), interesting alien races, intergalactic politics, etc....

2 improves on all of that and provides more awesomeness. 3 is a great game, until, some people say, the end, but I disagree. I won't spoil anything for you, but the ending actually isn't disastrous and game breaking. It can be a little confusing, but apparently it was worse before an update was delivered last year (thankfully before I played).

Trust me, you'll love it and the series is a good value at this point.

That was my impression too. Longer ending, but no more satisfying.

My backlog is still extensive... tempting, but will wait for a good price on something that includes DLC.

Some of the DLC is critical to the game, it's a markedly worse experience if you don't have it.
I'd call it necessary.

Which pieces of DLC are critical? I've been waiting for this to drop to $15 and I jumped on it. I also just beat ME2 a month ago...any DLC I should grab for that? I only got the free ones.

I am completely addicted to the Multiplayer. Which I can honestly say I never thought would happen. I don't play FPS online since Unreal Tournament 2. I still play ME3 constantly. The unlocks are unique characters and weapons gotta catch em all.

Oh and the Single Player in ME3 is great, ME2 single player was amazing though.
